Were they playing with a 2019 ball that year? I vaguely remember that big discrepancy between Pedro and the rest of the AL.

Pedro that year was the best pitcher I have ever seen. His ERA+ that year was the best in major league history

Minor league team near me, the Clinton Lumberkings are having Denny McLain bobble head night this Friday. Last pitcher (and no one will ever do it again) to win 30 games. He will be there to sign autographs. He pitched there in 1962. He won 30 games when pitchers pitched deep into games and didn't let crappy bullpens (like ours) blow wins for them.

Where are you located? I’m in Moline.

McLain 30 Wins. Never again.

1968 was such a news loaded year. Lots of political and rock n' roll deaths, murders, suicides. The middle of the War etc. And divisive but not exactly like now.

A ton of great music, also.

Geneseo

Wow. When my older one was in junior high and high school, I made the trip to the high school a lot. Football and wrestling mostly. Still go over for the wrestling tournament in January.

In that year 2000 when Pedro had an ERA of 1.74, I'm fairly certain he gave up 9 earned runs in a game against Seattle.

Nope. He let up 6 runs once. That was the most he let up that year.

His next highest was 4 (only once).

29 starts: 27 with 3 or less ERs allowed!

30 wins was only possible because pitchers then worked in a 4 man rotation. Back when men were men and pitchers didn't wear dresses.

Thanks, Moon. I knew he had one really bad outing.

Same year Gibson recorded that 1.12 ERA. He also was never taken out of a game during an inning. Still boggles my mind that he lost 9 games with that season.

The next year they lowered the mound from 15 inches to 10.

...and several pitched more seasons than today's pansies.
