So the Sox are clearly in the wild card race and up to two weeks ago, there were at least seven teams in the race. It’s now down to 4. The Angels continue to play .500 ball. The White Sox feel off a cliff. The Rangers are now 5.5 back and looking to sell their ace. Currently, the Guardians own the top WC spot after winning 6 in a row. The A’s have gone 8-2 in their last ten and occupy the second WC spot. TB has spiraled and is now 2 back in the L column. The Sox sit a game back at 3 behind in the L column. The Guardians have the easiest road. The A’s have a tougher road, but they also historically are a second half team. The Rays road gets easier in August. The Sox road is rough starting in 3 games then gets easier by September. It’s gonna be an interesting ride to see who takes the WC

If they continue to play the way they did last night, I don't think they will be in the wild card hunt.

Just get in. Better team on the Road then at home this year, so playing to our strength. Also Guardians only 3 behind the Twins now. Edited by OH FOY!

Things can and do change in baseball rather quickly. On June 15th, the Guardians were 11 games behind the Twins. Today, they are 3 games back. All it takes is a good run. Are the Red Sox capable of putting together a good run? I think so.

I know you are feeling all giddy about your Yankees, and you should be, but don't count your chickens before they hatch. The Yankees haven't won anything yet. They will probably win the division, but even with that, winning the WS is an entirely different story.

Jacko is such a good guy that way.

I’m flattered, lol. I am giddy about this Yankee team. I haven’t seen this type of team in a decade. Offense picks each other up, pen locks things down, rotation has spurts of brilliance mixed with “just good enough”. No single spot has divebombed any game and the additions from Colorado (Tauchman, Lemahieu, and Ottavino) have added a grittiness to the club that was lacking. We seem to fall behind in every game by a run or two then blow teams out. The drama level in the games has been high. The drama in the division race, not so much

Exactly. Getting in is all that matters at this point. Certainly losing to Baltimore didn’t help. This stretch against Tampa and New York will make or break this season.

Here's to hoping the Astros take them out in the playoffs .

We all should know by now that anything can happen in a five game playoff .

I think Cleveland and Oakland will be our two toughest opponents for the Wild Card. I see TB dropping below us at some point, but the other two hanging in all the way. Of course, Minny could easily replace Cleveland in the WC race.

As to this thread, it should definitely exist, no matter who starts it. And J is the opposite of the taunter. In today's perverse dumbed-down world, his reasonableness and baseball knowledge is much appreciated. The other Yank poster I don't feel at all the same about (in my limited knowledge, of course).

Yes, it's getting near time to break out the ABY shirts and hats.

The NYY & TBR stretch overlaps the trade deadline. We may have to make a choice before that stretch is over.

Did you happen to miss last year's Red Sox team, that one that won the WS and put up 119 wins? Unless of course you mean you haven't seen a Yankees team this good in over a decade. That would be more believable since the Y's haven't even been in the WS in almost a decade.

The Yankees of 2019 happen to be in the right place at the right time. What with the juiced ball, the short porch in right, and the Y's loading up on LH power hitters they should be embarrassed if they don't win the WS this year.

I meant Yankee team. And what planet are you on? Left handed power hitters? We are loaded with RH power hitter who know how to go the other way.

Yes we all felt that way about the 1978 Red Sox...

I'm not going to lie, the Yankees have looked very good this season. All I'm saying is that you haven't won anything yet.

What's wrong with the Red Sox taking them out of the playoffs?

Houston I think has the best chance but I would be A ok with Boston taking them out.

Boston isn’t taking out s*** unless they rediscover their 2018 magic. They look dead on the field.

And yeah, we haven’t won anything yet. I also agree that Houston is our biggest concern. This is why winning home field is so incredibly important. We are 0fer in Houston and 3-1 in NY. In the 2017 ALCS, the home team won every game. It will be vital to have that advantage if we cross paths

You should know by now that anything can and does happen in a short series. Also, HFA does not mean a whole lot when it comes to the playoffs.

Keep up the arrogance. It will be all that much sweeter when we take you down. ;)

HFA usually means nothing, but the history between these clubs shows that HFA is very important. We don't need it vs Minnesota or anybody else, but Houston is our bugaboo. They've knocked us out 2 of the last 3 times we have been in the POs. If we are to beat them, we need to secure HFA

The Red Sox need to take some teams out in the regular season if the Sox hope to advance to the postseason:

Agree if they project 89 wins, that won do it, I feel. Sox need at least 91 wins. Sox need to go 38-24 rest of way for this. This can be done. Sox have won at least 93 games past 3 years. They can get to 90 at least.
