I'm not happy about this, but the Yankees bigger need is their rotation. I'm waiting to see what they do about that.

Now that’s a smart rebuttal!

I’m intrigued to see who we go after. We’ve got the big league ready talent to snag someone who’s ace level. I wonder if the Nats would move Scherzer?

The other question about this move is, when Stanton comes back does he play outfield full time? Is he healthy enough to do that? He wasn't last year.

While that appears to be the best guess, I assume the Yankees know something about that.

Or maybe they want to see Luke Voit play LF...

I assume that the Yankees are sporting the heaviest roster in baseball history. Damn do they have a lot of hulks. This isn't some sort of fetish thing on Cash's part is it?

It would explain why he keeps re-signing Sabathia.

We’ll know more of he makes a deadline push for Tommy Hunter...

Too bad Mike King has been shelved all season. I would have liked to see him grab the 5th SP spot.

Chance Adams deserves a look. I saw Bumgarner to the Twins might be close. I doubt the Nats trade Max unless they are blown away, I.E. something like Fraizer, German, Garcia, a 4th prospect, and a bullpen piece like Holder.

I can understand the Rays, but the Astros are needlessly cheapies.

Agreed

Their window will be closing in 2 or 3 years, they need to make the most out of the current roster, most of their players will become very expensive soon, The only "core" players they have control for more that 3 years are Altuve and Bregman

I was surprised they spent big on Verlander, and I think they view that deal as the one splurge they will do.

The Yanks will pay him around 7 millions for the rest of the season, remove the 5 millions the rays are currently paying and he is in their pay range

I read that the Yanks are on the hook for about $4 mil with EE this year.

For luxury tax purposes (which is what seems to matter the most) the Yanks will only be hit with $3M this year and $5M next year (assuming they decline the team option).

That’s where you are wrong my friend.

The $5mil next year is covered by the Rays.

The Yanks split the remainder of this year, or around $4.5 mil

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal (Twitter link), the two teams are “essentially splitting the money” owed to Encarnacion for the remainder of his contract. The slugger has roughly $9.25MM left on the $20MM owed to him this season, after accounting for the $5MM being covered by the Rays as per the terms of the three-team trade that brought Encarnacion to Seattle from Cleveland back in December. Encarnacion also has a $5MM buyout of a $20MM club option for the 2020 season.

According to the article EE is owed $14.25MM this year, the rays are paying $5MM which makes the Mariners responsibility of about $9.25MM.

Here is a different article

Seattle is sending the Yankees $8,397,849, leaving New York to pay $8 million of remaining $16,397,849 Encarnación is guaranteed. New York is sending 19-year-old minor league pitcher Juan Then to Seattle.

The 36-year-old Encarnación has hit 21 home runs this season and has averaged 37 homers and 109 RBIs in his last seven years. He is owed $11,397,849 of his $20 million salary this year plus a $5 million buyout of a $25 million club option for 2020.

https://news.yahoo.com/ap-source-yanks-near-deal-013927527.html

Per this article, The Rays will pay $5MM, the Yanks $8MM and the Mariners $3.397MM, this makes more sense.

He's been struggling a little in the stripes.

He just needs to drink more from the clubhouse PED infused water fountain.

Yes he has. EE has always been a guy to get white hot then a bit cold. His white hot could be 15 homers in a month, so I’m not worried. If he doesn’t start performing soon, though, he could find himself on the bench come August when’s stanton and Voit are back
