Some observations:

Beni & the Betts=0-11 with 6K's. IMHO, if you don't put your expectations too high on Beni, you'll be less disappointed. The prediction for him being a great player may have been mistaken. As for Betts, I hope I'm wrong, but last season may have been a career year for him. He'll still put up respectable numbers in the future, but nothing like 2018.

That being said, a great pitching performance by Sale, who made one mistake and it was to the Rockies' best hitter. Brasier is probably going back to Japan and Workman was overdue for a bashing.

In every respect a terrible loss and a true back breaker.

So after this one game, the Sox should give up on Brasier, and temper any expectations about Benintendi and Betts?

And this loss is a back breaker? A single game in mid-May?

Sale looked great. i 100% agree with Cora pulling him after 7. JF wrecked him 2 years ago when he let him get the 300K's.

i was surprised Workman didnt throw a CB with the 2 strikes but even Eck was saying FB so what do i know.

the bats were quiet but i would expect that on a 40F night. we need some warm weather.

tough L to swallow but time to move on. the sun is finally out today. lets get back to winning.

108 pitches on a cold-ass night in May is plenty.

Exactly. Those calling for Sale to start the 8th would be the same ones to skewer Cora if Sale got hurt throwing the extra inning

Trophies aren’t won in May. If he returned and struck out 20 in May, who really cares

Maybe Cora should flip Betts and Beni in the 1-2 spots?

he may have boxed himself into a corner earlier this season when he basically stated that beni will be the leadoff hitter and he isnt going to flip flop him and betts. IMO that was a stupid comment for Cora to make.

Beni - i noted this in ST - he got fat in the offseason. he is slower in the field and he looks slower at the plate. he is also a very streaky hitter. he basically does mini versions of JBj. looks terrible for a handful of games and then tears the cover off the ball for a few games and then goes back to missing badly.

if i were Cora i would seriously consider making X-bo my leadoff hitter and dropping Beni in the lineup.

You can add Workman to that list

He probably belongs, but he's been so good this year, he was bound to have one bad game- actually one bad pitch.

Let me get this straight. Sale finished last year diminished with a shoulder injury. He starts out this season with no velocity and when he finally builds it back up, you want him to start an inning at 108 pitches in freezing cold weather? Consider Sale to be on the Pedro pitch count going forward.

Nothing to do with this post, but have you hanged your views on Sale's ability to bounce back? Has he convinced you, yet?

Your team had won 5 in a row and handed a lead to your pen in the 8th of what would have been your sixth win in a row. Why are you guys talking change at the top when Beni isn’t the problem. Heck, if your pen wasn’t a leaking bucket last night, the point wouldn’t have even been brought up

Because: i dont have issue with the pen.

I remember you blaming Sale for "being selfish" not Farrell.

agreed. but it is up to the manager to make the final decision. i would imagine Sale wanted to go for 21 last night too. Cora stomped that. the correct move.

I would have let him get ready for the 8th. If he k's the first batter and looks unhittable, just roll with it.

While it would have been really cool to see him strike out 20, or better yet, 21, the man was at 108 pitches.

Not only is that probably already too many, but he needs a minimum of 9 more to get 3 more Ks. 117+ pitches on a cold night in May is a baaaaad idea...

Last night had to be a first where a pitcher struck out 17 and his team supported him with 3 home runs and yet they lost. Talk about your anomalies! It is just one of those freak things. I don't blame Cora for taking him out. I blame him for pitching to Blackmon with an open base.

The big takeaway from last night's game is that the bullpen needs reinforcing. Barnes takes the 8th or 9th, but another closer type is needed.

Beny looked like he was going to vomit when Vasquez kept the game alive with a basehit. Beny didn't want the chance to go for 5 K's. I think he could use a night off.

Someone said that he looks like he gained weight in the off season. He looks the same to me. I don't see a change.

I was sitting near a loud mouth last night. Of course, he didn't make it past the 7th inning. He was shouting some nicknames for the players that I had never heard. He called Devers "two scoops" and Benintendi he called "Benny Five Cents". I never heard these. Am I just out ofthe loop?

those are really lame nicknames. heres my guess...

2 scoops = calling him fat

5 cents = calling him dumb

They talk about two scoops on the reddit Red Sox page and twitter.

I haven't heard Benny Five Cents though. When I google it, nothing comes up.

Further research indicates that it's because he looks young and earns a scoop of ice cream when he does well.

Further research also indicates that the Beni nickname comes from absolutely nowhere.

I don't think a rusty, declining Craig Kimbrel is necessarily the answer for the pen.

Nah, he's fresh.

Fresh out.

My daughter will often complain that she needs fresh water. I'll just add an ice cube to her water bottle and it's fresh again. Voila! Kimbrel is ready.

Crash: I'm too old for this s***. Why the hell am I back in A ball?

Skip: 'Cause of Ebby Calvin LaLoosh. Big club's got a hundred grand in him.

Larry: He's got a million dollar arm, and a five cent head.

Skip: Had a gun on him tonight. The last five pitched he threw were faster that the first five, He has the best young arm I've seen in 30 years. You've been around. You're smart, professional. We want you to mature the kid. We want you to room with him on the road, stay on his case all year. He could go all the way.

Crash: Where can I go?

Skip: You can keep going to the ballpark, and keep getting paid to do it. Beats the hell out of working at Sears.

Larry: Sears sucks, Crash. I worked there once, sold old lady Kenmore. Nasty.

Skip: And who cares if it's the Carolina League. It's a chance to play every day.

Crash: You don't want a ballplayer; you want a stable pony.

Skip: Nah.

Crash: Well, my triple-A contract gets bought out so I can hold some flavor-of-the-month's dick in the bus leagues, is that it? Well, f*** this f***ing game! [pause] I quit, all right? I f***ing quit.

[Crash exits the office and stands in the clubhouse for a minute before sticking his head back through the door]

Crash: Who we play tomorrow?

Skip: Winston-Salem. Batting practice at 11:30.

I said I think he "bulked up," but I'm not sure that bears scrutiny. He does seem slower, however.

His sprint speed is at 26.4 ft/sec this year. League average for the position is 27. He was at 27.7 last year.
