I listened to the third and fourth innings on the way home from a used bookstore that's about 40 minutes away. Usually when I make that drive during a game I can get through four or five whole innings before I get home.

pretty stressful day, but get back home to find a genuine laugher by the Sox with many of the struggling guys getting multiple hits/rbis, plus a good game by ERod. All is well on a Saturday night. Thank you, Red Sox

At some point T'burg and Brew man will need to answer for their transgressions. But a 15 run offense makes up for a lot of shortcomings in the back end of the pen. The fact we see Brewer and Thornburg pitching actually means we are doing well or they would be sitting.

At 16-18 after today, the Red Sox can finally see a .500 record on the near horizon. Final play by Devers to close it out shows that he definitely has some sreness in his left shoulder. He was rubbing and rotating it noticeably. But it didn't seem to hurt his bat the prior few days. See if he gets Sunday off.

53 PAs and 25 hits + BB!

This type of win may be what we have need to spark a hot stretch like we saw a few time last year.

Thornburg really sucks

I'm not one to make rash determinations over tiny sample sizes, but the Thornburg experiment has gone on long enough.

12 ERs in his last 8.2 IP is enough.

Brewer might be close to the same choice.

Hope they have enough runs in them for tomorrow. Creeping closer to 500! Let’s do this!!!!!

If the rotation keeps this up we will be good :)

I hope I did not discourage folks from the Bruins game tonight with my early comment about both teams struggling in the 1st period. There is simply nothing quite like the ebb and flow of an NHL playoff game. After the first period both teams got sorted out and in the end it was an incredible game. You would not think it from a 4-3 score but the goaltending was simply unreal. The Bruins had to muster incredible plays to score and the Blue Jackets had to muster incredible shots to get the puck past Rask.

Great night for Boston sports with Sox and Bruins winning. With any luck the Celts will pull themselves up in the Bucks series.

As commical as tonight's score was, tomorrow is the CWS bullpen game.

I think Brewer should go first. I think Thornburg at least has potential, but Brewer just straight up sucks. I'd be willing to give Thornburg a little longer leash, but if he doesn't show anything by June, we can get rid of him.

Go where? Pawtucket, I hope.

It’s a bit early to revamp the organization depth. But I wouldn’t mind seeing Brewer to Pawtucket and Mejia to Boston. Brewer has options and the Sox have room on the 40 man for Mejia. No reason this couldn’t happen today...

Thornburg actually had a pretty good outing last night. Game up a home run to Abreu, big deal. Otherwise he got 6 outs with 4 K's.

When Thornburg misses, he’s either well off the plate or right down the middle.

I was surprised they tendered him a contract, but I think on the long run, it might be worth it. And DFAing a pitcher because he turned a 15-1 game into a 15-2 game really shouldn’t warrant a DFA...

I've been thinking the same thing. The recent trend, especially the pitching, has been pretty good, plus the hitting, plus winning some games--and now a stomp them into the ground and leave no prisoners win.

Two specifics: the rotation (4, anyway) righting itself; Chavis bring-up and spectacular hitting so far.

And here's an admittedly cheap shot. Chavis has played in 14 games, JBJ in 28, but Chavis has 37 total bases to JBJ's 17, 13 rbi's to JBJ's 5, and 12 runs scored to JBJ's 6. It's numbers like these that make me wonder why JBJ is considered to be invaluable because of his defense, which frankly I have not seen make much of a difference. And, in case anyone is wondering, Mookie and Beni both have more total bases, rbi's, and runs than Chavis. I'm not against great defense, but I wonder sometimes whether it can't be over-valued.

The good thing is, the choice doesn't have to be Chavis or JBJ.

Bradley is a valued starter not just because of his defense but also because the Sox don’t name any better options anywhere. Even if you move Betts to CF and Martinez to RF, who DHs? Pearce? Nunez? Leon? Are any of them hitting better than Bradley? (Hint: no)
