Like everyone else, I'm delighted to see how Chavis is performing, but it was just last April that he got an 80-game suspension because a PED known as Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone was found in his system. And Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, better known as Turinabol remains in the system for 12 to 18 months. So unfortunately, only time will tell as to whether Chavis can maintain his present performance level.

The only reason to keep Nunez, who has been struggling s a hitter and was never a good fielder, is due to his versatility. But Chavis can field 2b and 3b with his level of mediocrity and that frees up Holt to cover some corner OF. Lin can be demoted. And the Sox could demote a pitcher to get back to a 4 man bench...

I doubt we carry all 4 of these guys on the 25 all year long: Chavis, Pedey, Nunez & Holt.

I suppose Chavis could take Pearce's slot, and we could keep all 4, but we are far away from trading or DFA'ing Pearce.

even without the PED questions - it is more likely than not he'll fall off somewhat. But he clearly can hit. The approach is legit.

After picking up Michael Chavis in my fantasy league a week ago, I am now actively trying to trade the red-hot slugger while his value is high. My team needs pitching numbers more than Chavis' hitting numbers.

What position does Chavis play, when he is established next year?

1B? DH?

I would think of him as a sort of Tony Phillips (for the old people) where he splits starts between 1B, 2B and LF ... his ability to play all of them non-terribly has some value even if he might not play any of them well.

We will likely not re-sign Moreland and Pearce, so I see Chavis as our 1Bman next year. He may DH at times.

I doubt we look to him to be a major factor at 2B.

Chavis can likely handle 1b just fine and patrol 3rd maybe a handful? DH a lot .The guy is a prototype DH .Who can we DFA ? no way in hell I get rid of Holt over Pedey or Nuney or Pearce .So much money to eat but Chavis has earned a spot now .

I'd keep Holt over Pearce, Nunez & Pedey, assuming he gets back to healthy.

Maybe we can IL Pearce, when Pedey is ready. That would buy us more time.

When Holt and Pedey are ready, a tough choice will be needed.

Really love that idea .

Aha! Finally someone with some credentials saying how long "D...whatever" stays in the system. THANKS!

Let me put it this way: If he doesn't fall off somewhat we're going to be mentioning him and TW in the same breath... :D which isn't likely.

He sure is fun to watch right now though!

I see the kid has adopted Martinez' deep breating exercise before stepping in back in the box. Good idea!

I pretty much agree with this, but as of right now, I would dump Pedey. It's really sad what he's been through, but I'm not willing to pay him to sit on the DL, a la Jacoby Ellsbury. Something could change. He could come back this season and become half the player he once was, and still be worth keeping. Of those on the bubble, I'm not sure at the moment who I would keep or let go, as it is way to early in the season

I don't disagree, but I think Pedey gets at least this one last chance. As long as Holt remains unready, Pedey will get another chance.

When you think of who has the least chance of helping us going forward, I think Pedey heads the list- ahead of Nunez & Pearce.

Holt and Nunez serves the same purpose. One of them goes.

I see your point, but what purpose does Pedey serve?

If Pedey goes, we'd want to keep both Nunez and Holt (and Chavis, of course).

if chavis keeps raking and doesnt make too many goofs at 2b....pedroia is hurting the team if he comes back and forces chavis down. would be a bad look for him.

Chavis is not going down, unless he has a prolonged slump.

It will come down to Pedey vs. Nunez vs Holt vs Pearce.

Pedroia servers the purpose of being heavily paid to play 2b part time. But unlike Holt and Nunez, he has a couple years left.

Losing Nunez at this point wouldn’t be a big deal...

my point was if the team decided to use chavis option to get pedey back in the lineup. i agree that it seems to make more sense to DFA/psuedo IL nun, holt, or pearce but optioning chavis is still an....option. (albeit a very very very small chance of it actually happening).

It is an option, and maybe in a few weeks Chavis might make the Sox consider that option. Right now, I think they’ve forgotten about it...

...a couple years of what?

ILs after ILs, uncertainty and another year of keeping someone else off the roster.

I say, he gets one more chance, and unless someone else goes to the IL, I'd keep Holt over Pedey, for sure. Pearce and Nunez vs Pedey are close calls.
