Pardon my memory re/important procedures, QUESTION: If Porcello stinks up the place as much as he has been doing, what would stop the Sox from sending down to Pawtucket for a week or so. Maybe 2 starts, Find out what the hell is wrong. Weak arm? or what/ No sense in him going through a spring training facing major league.hitters. Just a thought

1) He has no options left, so to send him down they would have to expose him to waivers.

 

2) He has 9+ years major league service time. Any player with 5 years cannot be sent down without his consent. So even if he did clear waivers, he could refuse the assignment, sign with another team, and the Sox would be on the hook for his entire salary (minus the major league minimum).

 

3) In order to sent go on a rehab assignment, he would first have to go on the IL.

Not totally fair since Lin just re-arrived but the combined BA's of these 3 guys is .338, with a combined OPS of .750. The Red Sox are a much better team when the bottom 3 hitters account for any combination of 3 hits or walks in a game. Get some OBP in front of Beni-Betts etc.

Going to be missing Eovaldi for about 3-4 weeks, and possibly he will come back via the BP to rebuild his pitching arm condition. Poyner came up but he isn't a stater . Who gets the ball? or does the Opener concept reach Boston ? i think of Velasquez as an opener good for about 3 innings.
