I think I disagree with everything said here.

Porcello will not be offered a QO of over $19M.

DHernandez is Porcello's replacement.

Johnson stays in the pen, if he even makes the team.

I do not think D Hernandez is a starter. He is a 6th and/or 7th inning reliever.

We have one guy in the system with the stuff to be a starter....mata! (Provided he overcomes command and control issues)

Porcello is pitching 7 innings tomorrow and giving up no more than 1 run. Heard it here first.

Ugh. Tyler, thats a bad prediction.

And Dave Dombrowski will announce that he is legally changing his name to Drippy McPants for religious reasons.

Too sarcastic?

Drippy McPants?

Yes.

And if Porcello doesn’t go 7IP 1ER tonight, the name will still be available. You know, if you’re in the market for a change....

This is funny, because I actually got roasted at work literally last night by a few 60+ year old women, because me and this girl in her 20's were listening to Drake song and he said "all my exes live in Texas like I'm George Strait", and the girl says "who the hell is George Strait" to which I replied "I think a country singer or something". They were not happy with our lack of knowledge about him and we got a full rant about who he was and his musical impact lol.

Lmao. I have heard of him but can’t say I know any of his songs. I like Alan Jackson though!

Agree. I feel like Porcello is underrated because he doesn't have the shining ERA.

He has him moments of excellence, along with his very poor starts, but most of the time, he will give the team 6+ innings and keep the team in the game.

Thats the problem though. Is that worth 21M a year? Is that worth another long term contract? He said he was willing to take a discount, yet those numbers havent been leaked.

I doubt it was much of a discount, because Porcello is very valuable at a discounted price.

I have said many times that I would sign Porcello to that initial 4-year contract any day of the week.

Would I sign him to another 4-year contract at this stage of his career? No.

With the exception of increasing his k's, he has been almost the identical pitcher for the Red Sox as he was for the Tigers, proving my point that there isn't much upside for a pitcher after they have 1,000 + innings under their belt.

Just saying. I was pretty damn close. 1.1 inning and a run short of my prediction.

7th inning, Mookie has 4 at bats, He has taken called strike one each at bat. I wonder how he'd fo if he wasn't behing in the count every at bat!

I think the fact that mookie is taking meatballs instead of crushing them, is a sign that his confidence at the plate is seriously shot.

We really need Mookie to put the early season ptsd behind him and him to start “feeling it” at the plate, if this team is to have any chance of breaking out of this early season funk!

The entire team especially the starting rotation seems to have got it going. You would be amazed at what a spark it causes for the entire team. I have no doubt Mookie will get it going. Not worried about him in the least. Today was a pretty sound goos. Offense produced yet again, Porcello for the most part was very solid bullpen fought it up a bit but two straight wins over the division leader is something to be happy about! Just hope this team keeps it going now.

Rick Porcello is highest paid mediocre middle of the rotation pitcher other than he was given the Cy Young in 2016 that's right given because he surely didn't earn it Verlander was the true winner because 2 yardbirds idiots left him off their ballots. How can you explain the runner up with the most first place vote to an award clearly not be on all the voting ballots their excuse was they submitted their ballots 2 weeks early when Porcello imploded. Porcello only category that he lead Verlander was in team wins he didn't have the better ERA. not innings pitched, not the SO or WHIP. If the 2 dummies would've had Verlander on their ballots he gotten a couple of votes which would've given him the CY Young they should have an asterisk by his name like they had for Roger Maris 2016 Cy Young awarded by mistake by 2 idiots that screwed up their ballots. The guys has lifetime 4.29 era not exactly your ace quality pitcher never like the guy never will Chris Davis got out his slump thanks to Porcello anyone having trouble hitting just let them face Porcello good for morale and confidence booster. If the Red Sox are smart this is one guy they will let walk as soon as his deal is done.

Even if Verlander won the Cy Young - and I thought Kluber was the better candidate- it doesn’t change the fact that Porcello was inarguably a legitimate candidate. Don’t lump all non-Cy Young winners together into one big category where they are all equal. Porcello was absolutely outstanding that year, hardware or not...

Guess it depends who takes his place? I am curious to see how the rotation manages without Eovaldi for the next month or two. It's a tough question to answer with Porcello if he is worth the money or not. He is definitely one of the streakiest pitchers in the league..... When he is on like he was against Tampa you know he will give you 6 plus innings and give you a chance to win the game, unfortunately when he is off like he was to start the season he pretty much costs you the game before the 3rd inning. I would like to see Porcello stay but for the right price. I am very curious what discount he offered.

Holy s***, you're obviously new around here and I have no clue who you are...... But the hate you have for Porcello is utterly ridiculous......

First of all: The CY Young season has been discussed many times on this board, you aren't hurting anyone's feelings by saying "Another pitcher deserved it" That is totally fair, and to be perfectly honest..... I was actually pretty stunned when Porcello won the award. I definitely thought guys like Verlander & Kluber had just as much of a shot if not more to win it as they were fantastic.... HOWEVER what the hell does that have to do with anything? Porcello was absolutely outstanding that season and was no doubt in the question for the award. You are basically saying "Porcello was very good that year, but he got an award he shouldn't have which by the way was in no way his fault, there for I HATE him) I don't understand that what so ever.... Regardless moving on

Second: Who really would take Porcello's place? 4 years ago Porcello was the CY Young award winner, and last season he was very good. He struggled down the stretch but he started the season red hot. I think his first 8 out of 9 starts he gave up 3 runs or less. He went 33 starts last season and finished with an ERA of 4.28 which seemed a lot worse than it was because he had 3 very bad games last season 2 of which were against the Jays where he was absolutely crushed inside of just a couple innings and I think another was against the Guardians where he gave up another 5 runs. Outside of 3 or 4 bad games he was rock solid all season and very consistent. That is not an easy find in a pitcher especially if Porcello is willing to take a discount. This season Porcello started slow but the entire rotation did so I'm not going to touch on that too much as he was very solid his last start.

Im not saying we are stupid if Porcello walks, but I think at the right price he is consistent enough to keep and as many have said on here you can usually count on Porcello to give you 6 plus innings every time he is out. Or.... you let him walk and possibly sign another pitcher at a decent chunk of money and risk him being exactly like Porcello or sucking even more... Keep in mind it seems to be a curse over the last decade (NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA) with these massive contract signings turning out to be utter garbage. I think Chris Sale is the exception...... however he isn't exactly proving me wrong this season either.
