You are pounding Pedroia on this, and i could be wrong, but I believe the Jays sent the runner as on a steal attempt. With a RH batter up, usually the 2Bman covers second. That's what I saw. Classic hit/run set up to clear the 2B hole.

 

But Pedroia did get the DP when he was batting, so there's that

Giving up the amount of hits and runs he has in 4 innings against this dreadful Jays team is an abomination regardless of strike outs. Whether it’s the contract or not. 2 of his first 3 starts have been a total s*** show. He needs to figure this out. I get saving his arm but if he’s gonna perform like this every day. Maybe let him throw a few solis fast balls.

Don’t have to convince me twice. I’m with you. At what point do they say screw it just go out and pitch?? He’s been dreadful. Clearly “saving” his arm isn’t working. He’s getting lit up as bad as he did in Seattle. If his normal fastball doesn’t return I totally agree. Something is up.

We are in a lot of trouble early. About to be 3-9 and 5 games under the division leader with zero signs of showing we can climb out of This hole. Our win against Oakland was 1-0. Nothing overly to brag about. With this rotation keeping this up we are hot garbage.
