Maybe more than that. Throwing those damn sliders every other pitch is not doing their arms any good.Maybe "Times they are A'chamging"

Now that Johnson is on the IL, it may be Velazquez starting each time, unless or until we call DHern up.

I would like to see Velazquez go 5 innings next time.

He was rock solid yesterday. I don’t mind.

i mean...he had to have earned himself another start, right? even Cora can agree with that??

(Forgive me if I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, but...) Cora wouldn't have started him yesterday if he didn't like him.

He was a breath of fresh air through those first 3 innings compared to what we have been getting. I would definitely like to see him start again.

Velazquez has to be officially considered no deeper than #6 for us now. Given the fact that we go 8 or 9 deep in the pitching staff every year I fully expect to see him again... frequently.

I doubt we can rely on BP starts, mainly because I see our BP being overused because of 5-6 inning outings by starters. Unless, we decide to start playing musical chairs with dependable Pawtucket guys, I really don't see it working.

Agreed.

Once? Sure. Multiple times? Not a smart strategy...

Pretty sure every starter in baseball only goes 5 or 6 innings anymore....

Exactly. Which is why using the bullpen for an entire game every now and then is unnecessarily taxing...

This time it’s followed by an off day, then agame, then another off day. Great timing by Cora and not taxing.

So it was a Tax Free Day, followed by a Sale...

Bad accountant jokes.

Nothing about an upcoming Price hike?

I look at it this way.

The staff will pitch about 1450IP in a season.

The rotation will pitch about 800 of those. The bullpen is left with the other 650.

So they already are going to handle over 40% of the innings. Using 3 or 4 pitchers every now and then takes them out of the next game or two, which means the starters need to go more than their 5-6IP in those starts or use the recently overworked bullpen. Now with these early season off days, it worked out. But as the season goes on, it’s a bad idea to shift more IP from that 800IP bucket to the 650 IP bucket. Especially considering one is only expecting about 60-70IP apiece from each reliever, already leaving the non-rostered relievers to pick up nearly 150-200IP over the course of a season...
