I'm sure some of you have read about the recent exploits of a Mr. Dykstra.

Well, in his new book, Ron Darling makes a shocking accusation, that before Game 3 of the 1986 World Series, Dykstra unleashed a tirade of racist remarks and insults at Red Sox starting pitcher Dennis (Oil Can) Boyd. Darling says the shocking attack seemed to rattle Oil Can. The scumbag Dykstra would hit a leadoff homer to ignite a 4-run first, and the Mets would take the crucial game easily.

I had never heard this story. It is shocking in many aspects. The least shocking aspect is that Dykstra would do something so outrageous. What is shocking is that this episode never made its way to the sports pages of the Boston papers. I a sportswriter or announcer didn't hear it first hand, I would think that one of the many witnesses would have given the story to a newspaper writer or TV News guy. Even more surprising to me is that Don Baylor (the Sox DH) didn't pay a visit to Dykstra after the game. He must have heard it from the Sox dugout. Also, I wonder what other Met players like Strawberry and Gooden thought about it.

Pete Rose ring a bell?

Rose is a scumbag, but he's got nothing on Dykstra, seriously. I'll list some of his other notable doings when I get time.

Whoever started the Black Sox scandal. I'm too tired to look it up

That would be Charles Comiskey, who refused to pay his players well and allegedly denied them opportunities to reach performance bonuses, most notably ace pitcher Eddie Cicotte, who was supposedly denied multiple opportunities to get his 30th win which would trigger a $10,000 bonus. (His salary was $6,000.). Not sure if the benching is true, but his game logs indicate he was pulled after 2 innings in his last game with a 2-1 lead...

Also, Zack Hample.

But then Hample does run a charity that gives baseball and softball equipment to underprivileged kids...

Hal Chase was Pete Rose before Pete Rose, with the added bonus of intentionally throwing games he bet on and bribing players on other teams to do the same...

Dykstra is pretty bad, but it's not like he attacked workers on his family farm with a machete like Ugeth Urbina. He wasn't a pedophile like Chad Curtis or Mel Hall (both Yankees btw). He didn't murder anyone like Julio Machado or kill a woman while drunk driving like Jim Mahady.

Hall’s case was insane.

The Red Sox used to have an infielder named Julio Valdez who was arrested for statutory rape in the middle of a game, but evidently the grand jury found insufficient evidence to proceed and Valdez continued his career for a coupe more seasons. It was possibly all made up.

But Hall was a serial predator...

Arrested mid game for Statutory Rape? That is so absurd that I had to look up and read about this guy. What an absurd story. I couldn't imagine the reactions on social media if this had happened today.

He deserves a portion of the blame, but Arnold Rothstein's share is bigger. It's a fascinating example of the futility of hooking up with criminals and expecting them to be on the level. I strongly recommend "Eight Men Out" (the book) to anyone interested in reading about the scandal.

If people aren't familiar with the Black Sox scandal, I highly recommend the movie "Eight Men Out". It educated me a lot on it, and honestly, It made me feel bad for Buck Weaver.

Edit: Wow, As I was typing this Northern Star recommended the book, that also is a good read, I'm just more of a movie person myself.

If I recall correctly, Chase didn't even bother trying to hide it, he was very blatant about it. Wonder how that sat with some of his teammates.

It's been too long since I saw the movie in order to compare it to the book, but the book has so much detail, it's very thorough.

So the New York Post is all over this story.

Darryl Strawberry says Darling is lying.

Darling says he has received texts from former Mets who 'have his back'.

Dennis Boyd says he didn't hear the tirade, but he believes Darling is being truthful.

And Mr. Dykstra has threatened to sue Darling, while also saying that if he saw Darling right now he would 'drop him like a red-headed f***ing stepchild'. Seriously.
