Headline: Inflamed shoulder to send Yanks' Betances to IL

What's he doing in Chicago?

There was no need to cave to PC and rename the DL.

I thought we weren't allowed to call disabled people disabled anymore? I don't know why they would change it either.

Disabled people were supposedly bothered by it because they're permanently disabled, whereas players are just temporarily hurt. I don't care either way, I just hope I don't have to talk about the DL/IL a lot this season.

Too late!

I'm not bringing this up to troll the Yankee fans. But it would have been kind of embarrassing if Cashman waited until the season started to announce the extensions for Severino and Hicks.

I bet Dellin wished he signed the extension offer now.

But isn’t that how the Yankees are getting hurt?

“Oh, Luis, you don’t like this offer on the paper? Maybe you’ll like it better on this BAT!!!”

Just call it the IL and move on. The only thing more annoying that PC re-labeling is people complaining about PC re-labeling...

Was able to get up to Roger Dean Stadium (ST home of the Cards and Marlins) for the Yanks vs Cards yesterday. Sat out in the LF bleachers with a pretty friendly group of fans from both sides.

German did not impress, letting up 3 gopher balls. Gleyber had a pretty strong hit to drive in a couple. Andujar looked good at the plate as well.

After we left around the 6th inning and were walking to the car, 2 kids came running up to a silver SUV with pens and baseballs in hand. The passenger rolled down the window and it was Gleyber, who stopped and chatted for a moment and signed for the kids. It was pretty cool.

Here's a few pics.

Obviously the Yankees have WS aspirations this year (and every year), but one fun little side quest last year was chasing down the Mariners' home run record. Barring some debilitating injuries, they look poised to challenge the record again this season. 268 is a large number but it's certainly doable with so many sluggers in the lineup:

Home Runs Needed

Stanton: 45

Judge: 40

Sanchez: 30

Voit/Bird: 30

Gleyber: 25

Andujar: 25

Hicks: 25 (if he returns soon)

Didi/Tulo: 20

LaMahieu: 10

Gardner/Frazier/Tauschman: 10

Romine/Wade/All other role players: 10

This comes out to 270. These totals don't seem too wild to me since everyone has roughly hit their HR figures before (except Void/Bird). Here's looking forward to another record setting year and an overdue ring!

The fact that we smashed the record last year with one slugger being down (Sanchez), Judge missing 8 weeks, and one position being entirely powerless (1b) until August shows the potential of the club. If healthy, I think Judge is a 50HR hitter and if Stanton can get comfortable, he could go that high as well. The biggest questions are clearly at SS and 1b. In terms of power, Tulo has been showing it, but he’s also striking out at a ridiculous rate. For 1b, both players have power, but neither have put a full year together.

This is an actual realistic idea that the Yanks could break their own homerun record. Something shared with almost all baseball pundits. You picked your rotation to win 92 games. That’s just dumb

I explained that I was used to doing team record in starts and kinda went inbetween team record & actual record. I admitted my mistake.

cool.

you guys raising the banner for that at the home opener?

Just make sure you don’t disappear when the Yanks take their next title. In 2009, a considerable amount of Sox fans disappeared on this site and didn’t return for months. If you’re gonna dish it out, take it too

Yup, its the way its always been. I've been here during two championships and both times the forum was dead in off season. I just get bored of debating same three things over and over again during off season lol

I'm one of those, I usually read most of the posts (rarely post anything no related to the Yankees), you deserve to enjoy your championship and every post against your team is interpreted by some folks as an intent to diminish the accomplishments of the previous season.

Today is a new season and I'm ready to rrrrrumble!

LOL, it always cracks me up when sox fans call out Yankee Stadium and forget about the dimensions of the s*** hole their team plays in.
