Another kid I'm going to keep an eye on this summer, LF 17 year Elio Prado, also plays for DSL Red Sox 2. Looks like that team got some young studs down there at this point. I wonder is this the advanced DSL team, since they have 2, if they do good here, they move them to Lowell quickly. Probably after 100 at bats, maybe 200, not sure. That's the good Prospects. Looks like Duran is struggling in Portland. But I expected that, since he's reached a level where the talent is equal or better. Now, we get to see what kind of Prospect he really is. Does he adjust, to that level, and improves, or does he keep struggling.

Another thing when a kid moves up, they have a lot of issues to deal with, the move, Rent, new Teammates, a lot of things to deal with. Just like a lot of us when we do something different. Not to mention, he has to focus on his job.

AH I see, DSL 2 is the lower league, and the next step is DSL 1. Average about 250 at bats a season, in both leagues, which is a lot for a kid. Younger the better. Edited by OH FOY!

I doubt he would have sustained his super high BAbip in single A, as well.

Give him time at AA. He almost certainly will not reach teh same numbers as single A, but his speed might help him continue to rise up in the system and prospect rankings.

BTW, here are soxprospects.com current rankings (+/- from last ranking):

Remember, Chavis is no longer a prospect, so everyone should have gone up 1.

1. Casas +2

2. Dalbec +2

3. Duran +10

4. DHern -2

5. Groome -1

6. Chatham +2

7. Houck-2

8. Flores -1

9. Mata -1

10. Feltman -1

11. Howlett even

12. Decker even

13. Shawaryn +2

14. Scherff +4

15. DDiaz -1

Other notable rises and falls:

?? M Wilson (unranked > 26)

?? K Hart (unranked to 35)

+28 Fitzgerald (56>28)

+16 TWard (38>22)

+15 EBazardo (51>36)

+9 Ockimey (27>18)

+8 Crawford (29>21)

+7 Joan Martinez (36>29)

As I predicted, the Red Sox system took a huge step forward this year. Houck and Mata are in the process of developing into top SP prospects. And Groome will hopefully continue that trend when he returns over the summer.

But there have been a few disappointments, including Feltman and D.Hernandez. Maybe if the Red Sox move Hernandez to the minor league bullpen we would see an improvement in his location? The kid has a million dollar arm but he will never make it as a starter unless he improves his location.

Let's see if our ranking rises as much as your view.

Feltman did not take a step back. Look at his gamelog. He had two bad outings.

Yes, and in his last 13.1 IP, he has allows just 8 hits. The 5 BBs is still too high, but with 13 Ks and a WHIP just over 1.0, he's not going backwards.

Huge step forward? Do you ever stop drinking the Kool Aid? The sox system is still ranked dead last with the biggest impact players not even debuting yet as short season has yet to break camp. The guys in your system, outside of Duran, have shown nothing that scouts and prospect followers don't already know

Even Duran's rise was on the back of a totally unsustainable BAbip.

IMO, our farm will still be ranked bottom 3 when the mid season rankings come out and at best bottom 5 next winter.

Duran might be an illusion but Casas has shown significant improvement...

Yes, but not enough to bring us out of the bottom 3 or 5 systems in MLB.

Yeah at this point that DSL 2 team looks like it got some hitters on them. Young too, many will play at age 17 this year, and their Birthday is in the Winter. Meaning next season they will be playing at the next level at age 18.

18 hits not bad.

Really going to keep an eye on Gonzalez. See if he keeps this up. Sounds like a good fielder too. Has 3 assists in 13 games, with 0 errors.

Last year had some good DSL bats too. They are now in Lowell. We’ll see Gonzalez up in Lowell next year and get a better idea of what they have against experienced competition.

That was it in a nutshell with Anderson Espinoza. I remember a Poster saying he is unreal, yeah he is playing against High School kids, soon as they rushed him up, got hit pretty bad. Since he was young and then the Padres rushed him, he blew out his arm, now I think its twice. Still think he might make it back as a good reliever.

These young kids can hit fastballs nowadays, its the secondary pitches that will give them problems. Thats the difference in the Higher leagues.

Young Pitchers, need more time to get the arms stronger. Go from 50 innings to 100 innings is a big deal.

For hitters going to 200+ At bats is a big deal.

How Deivi Garcia is not there is a sin. That's incredulous that he isn't there

MLB.com is not one of the best ranking entities.

Looking at Darwinzon Hernandez start the other day in Pawtucket, they did not return him to Portland, so he got promoted. He went 5 innings, with just 2 hits, and 7 walks. He better get his control down. Wont make it in the Majors. Hitters there way better, and they will just wait him out, and get a hitters count, to get him. Great arm, with no control, wont work in the Majors.

He's a reliever to me. Stretch only, FB-slider, and let it fly. Lots of great relievers started out as starters with poor command.

What's the excuse for the high-spending Dodgers being tied for 5th with the most top 100 prospects?

I know none are above #35, but they went to the WS AND have a strong farm and several recent grads.

Dodgers have always had a real good farm system for years and years

long term, the Red Sox farm system is making me nervous, I just see all these young hard throwing pitchers...example the guy Thornton that threw last night for the Jays, and he is only one of a slew of guys that come to mind(Rays whole damn staff)and I ask myself, where are the Red Sox scouts with some these guys? Pitching wins championships, and it is not a smart business model to have to go out on the free agent market to acquire it. Way to many misses by the Sox in this area for my liking

DD's regime has raped and pillaged the farm system and then never replaced the lost players with anyone of consequence. Cherington had a major issue drafting and developing pitching. He at least got very good at drafting and developing positional talent. DD has struck out across the board at drafting and developing any talent. Hence why you are staring at a cliff. It is coming

Be a little fair to DD.

He did draft Shawaryn. He also drafted Houck, who is climbing through the system. And also Groome, whose issues have not been his fault.

He’s only been drafting since 2016, and not many players in drafted in that timeframe are in the majors right now...

Shawaryn is a RH specialist long term. Houck has been better his last 4 starts, but his season line isn't one to be touted as anything special and I still think he's a reliever. Groome was an understandable pick, although has the sox known about the family issues, he would have been a hard pass where they were selecting.
