Anybody watch the Pawsox today? Announcers had some good stuff on Players. Dalbec looked better at 3rd today then when I saw him, much better footwork, he has the arm, no doubt. 3 K's today though.

Your Boy Ockimey hit a HR, and was the DH, again.

You know he leads the Pawsox with Men Left on Base? 5th in the International League.

That's quite a stat. Now if RBI is a team-based stat, so is LOBsters.

I'm not going to get down totally on Ockimey, he wasn't always that bad with RISP, probably just a bad year. There was a lot of pressure on him this year to perform.

If he isn't protected on the Rule 5, and he returns, I would give him another chance. He is relatively young at 24 in Oct.

He has the Power, just got to be a better all around hitter. Got to make more contact, and cut down on his K's.

Hopefully he makes the adjustments. Hope he finishes strong.

When we got Ockimey, we knew he was "raw" and needed time to improve. He reached rule 5 last year, and it's getting close to the point where we may have to choose someone else deserves a shot with this team.

I see our 2020 forty man roster as very weak on the bottom 10-15 players. I'm thinking I may rather give him one more year than several other players on the 40 man roster now.

Ockimey could play a role on the Red Sox next year. Specifically, he has excellent numbers at AAA against RHP. He could start for the Red Sox next year as a low cost option at first base. However, the Red Sox will need to take him out of the order against LHP, which he doesn't hit at all.

I don't know who you platoon him with, but it probably won't be difficult to find a right handed batter who can play first base and has excellent numbers against lefties. The Pearce train has come and gone--the Red Sox need to find someone younger.

I still like the idea of trying to acquire D.Smith (by trading Dalbec) but if the Mets have other plans for Smith, Ockimey isn't a terrible fall back option.

2020:

1b: Ockimey/???

2b: Chavis

SS: Bogaerts

3b: Devers

C: Vazquez

LF: Benintendi

CF: Duran (and ninth hitter)

RF: Betts

DH: Martinez

w/ M.Hernandez playing the B.Holt role

Since he can hit RHP, I would definitely put Ockimey on the 40 man roster. Even if the Red Sox acquire D.Smith, depth will be needed at some point.

Ockimey against RHP in AAA this year: 228 AB, 18 HR, .246 AVG, .387 On Base, .931 OPS

You could play Chavis at 1B vs LHP'ers and play Marco at 2B vs lefties. Marco has hit lefties better than righties in small ML sample sizes to date.

We could also use Dalbec with Ockimey at 1B and use Chavis almost FT at 2B.

It’s a sad state for the Sox farm that Josh Ockimey - a man 29 teams passed over as a free gift as recently as December - is being discussed as a potential strong side platoon option at 1b...

This happened to Wade Boggs too.

Good to see Ockimey with another HR against a RHP. The guys rakes against RHP. I asked this in another post, but what do people think of a platoon of Ockimey/Travis for 1b next year, with Ockimey facing righties (2019 AAA numbers against righties: 233 AB, 18 HR, .249 AVG, .390 OBP, .935 OPS); Travis facing lefties? Both players would be making league minimum.

Duran with his first HR in Double A. After getting off to a slow start, he has really adjusted to the league.

Dalbec vs LHPs this year: .904 (.794 v RHPs with 14 HRs in just 260 ABs)

Total vs RHPs in AA (2018-2019): 20 HRs in 350 ABs.

I'd like to see Dalbec, Ockimey and Travis fight for PAs at 1B next year. Chavis could play some 1B, especially if Marco comes through at 2B.

I don't think Ockimey has much of a future above AAA. He's basically a poor man's Chris Carter. Dalbec at least has some defensive skills that can couple with his TTO approach at the plate and get him to the Majors...

I have Chavis starting at 2b, but if Marco can stay healthy and hit .300, Chavis is always an option at 1b too. I like Dalbec, but I just think the Red Sox can get a nice return for him and his above average defense at 3b makes him more valuable to a team that has a hole at 3b.

FsB, the sox couldn't even get a rental reliever for Dalbec at the deadline.

That's an interesting way of looking at it...you don't suppose that perhaps they weren't interested in trading him for a rental?

I doubt they would have offered Dalbec for a rental reliever, and I’m one of Dalbec’s harsher critics...

With Travis and Ockimey so far from being sure bet ML'ers, I think we have to keep Dalbec in the 1B picture.

Dalbec is also a nice guy to have at 1B, because he can be the 3B back-up.

Yes, I'm impressed, but he has to show this for a longer period of time.

He's been at .921 for only 60 PAs.

He's was at .296 the previous 23 PA (.721 overall).

.794 in AAA this year (268 PAs) not great for a 1Bman

.731 in AAA over 4 seasons (1198 PAs) not even good.

.771 overall in the minors.

Let's keep Dalbec around, just in case...

I gave up on Travis long ago, but we have nothing to lose by giving him one more shot to show what he's got.

Cole Sturgeon had 3 HRS today, and hit a 2 Run HR in bottom of the 10th to win it for last game of season. For the Pawsox.

Dalbec finished .257 last 10 games hit .205

And he's not even on the list of prospects! :)

His OBP of .353 more than makes up for his low BA.

His .811 OPS and being over .900 vs RHPs two years straight makes him a possible platoon 1B/DH type going forward. Possible- maybe not likely.

Wouldn't shock me if they Release him.

I would be mildly surprised.

The guy kills RHPs, and Chavis, Travis and Dalbec do not have the same numbers as he does versus righties.

I think we give him a long look in ST'ing and he may be part of a 1B platoon with Chavis/Travis/Dalbec. (Chavis may play 2B or 1B & 2B.)
