If we resign eovaldi, who gets booted off the 40 man roster?

 

No one knows. The Sox are run by a guy who once DFAd a relief pitcher who had been drafted 2 years earlier so he could keep a 29yo career minor leaguer outfielder.

 

He might DFA Pedroia for all we know..

It seems weird that so many reports claimed we cut Cuevas and demoted Maddox to make room for Brewer and the rule 5 guys, but in reality, there was room to keep one (and cut them later, once we sign someone).

Don't teams usually protect 40 and then deal with who to cut or trade after they make or sign a deal for someone?

I meant, maybe Dombrowski wants the option to make a pick in the Rule 5 draft. I’d be surprised if he actually made a pick, but he needs an open roster spot to even be eligible. I also think someone like Eovaldi fills that spot soon enough...
