Sanchez wouldnt even have made our Postseason roster......

697 OPS for a DH that can't run for s***. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

When Sanchez was Devers' age, he was still playing in Peoria in front of 50 people. Nice try though sport!

LOL, catchers typically take longer to develop.... but you keep telling yourself that.

But he's not a C, he's a DH. :D

Whatever helps you sleep at night tho.

As for Realmuto, Houston. Book it.

They have the farm and did not exercise their option on Brian McCann...

I tend to agree with you on that....... Atlanta wouldn't surprise me either.

The in-division trade makes sense for the Marlins. Weaken Atlanta’s future while simultaneously strengthening your own.

But they’ll probably insist on Acuna and screw the whole thing up...

That's fine if you want to judge him on 89 games.

I'll go with the longer track record.

The most recent sample is always more indicative of future performance than prior years. Don't get too much sand in your eyes while your head is down there!

Well, we certainly will see.

Sanchez was a 5.5WAR player for 175 games between 2016 and 2017. Clearly not a s***** hitter. I get the criticism of his defensive game. His arm is special. His other defensive skills are bad. But his bat was special before a lost 2018. I guess 2019 will tell, but I think even the staunchest of sox fans think he will rebound offensively

With the Yankees the interesting move will be at 1B. Sign Machado and move Andujar to 1B? Another option is trading stuff for Goldschmidt - who has a crazy good contract for 1 year.

Can Sanchez learn how to play 1B?

Maybe. That being said, Voit deserves a shot out of the gate

Voit will get a look, as will Byrd, but if Andujar doesn't improve his 3B skills, he might be the best bet to be the Yanks 1Bman of the future.

All will be forgiven if he hits.

[NegaJacko]We've all seen players go both ways after a lost year. I will note for the record that being the American League's Passed Ball King for 2 years straight, including a year when you only half-time it at catcher and STILL pass more baseballs than you did in a full year of catching the previous year, is rather discouraging to say the least.

Not to mention that his offense has been trending downward since he debuted, and his D is obviously following suit. It's beginning to look like the book is out on the guy, and he's going to have to write a new chapter if he wants to stick around.[/NegaJacko]

Depends on how the FA/trade market goes ... if they sign Machado, Andujar clearly moves. If they can meet the price for Goldschmidt (and want to), then it's a different deal.

An interesting tidbit: Jason Varitek also led the league in passed balls for 2 straight seasons, thanks in part to catching (or trying to) Wakefield's knuckler.

I don't see the Yanks getting Machado. He wants to play SS, and the Phillies have gobs of cash.

I think the Yanks get Harper and pitching.

I really don’t expect the Yankees to sign Machado and I think their interest in him might be nothing more than due diligence. Machado does seem to want to play shortstop, and the Yankees need there is only short term. It might make more sense if Grigorius was not shelved and could be dealt for an arm for the rotation. But getting Machado now seems like a massive chunk of available resources that doesn’t fill the biggest need.

If the Yankees do want to improve infield defense and get Andujar to first, Josh Donaldson might make more sense. (This also applies to Boston if they want to move Devers to first, but I think Donaldson might be out of their price range, even on a pillow contract. But if Donaldson wanted to rebuild his value, what better ballpark and lineup?)

Mirabelli caught Wakefield 1012 innings

Varitek 489 innings.

Mirabelli was Wakefield's main Catcher while Varitek was here. After Doug was gone Cash was his main Catcher.

Not the two years VTek led the league in PBs. Mirabelli wasn't even on the team.

1999 Wake had these PAs against with these catchers:

579 with VTek

56 others

2000

495 w VTek

211 w Hatteberg

127 innings, in 99.

114 innings in 2000, I guess, just wasn't a good Catcher, Catching the Knuckler.

In 2004 the WS year Mirabelli caught Wake, 186 innings. Varitek 2.1 innings.

No, he wasn't, and that's why they found other catchers to be Wake's caddy after 2000, and VTek went on to become one of the best defensive catchers I have ever seen, despite a weak throwing arm.

I think Machado has already said he'd be willing to play third under the right circum$tance$.

True but not particularly relevant: last time I checked there were no knuckleballers on the Yankee roster.
