I think people thought that Manny genuinely didn't care or try, but the amount of time he actually put into hitting was ridiculous. This guy was a special talent. I actually liked the way he enjoyed the game, sure his fielding was bad, and his base running was questionable, but man at the plate was this guy something to watch.

I totally agree. Because he never threw his bat down in disgust or jawed with an ump, many took that to mean he didn't care.

He worked very hard at improving his hitting. He took it seriously.

At times, he did things to show he cared about his teammates. He sat out the last day of the season to make sure Mueller won the batting title, and he was the only player willing to step up and let Youk know he was going over board and needed to settle down.

Not sure where you are going here. Have to say though that I don't really pay too much attention to the lives that any of these guys lead off the field. i of course route for the hometeam but none of them really meant too much to me.

It was pretty well documented. Although he never admitted to having sex with a 15 year old, he never denied he had a close relationship with her behind his wife's back.

He's a liar. He's a cheat. He's scum.

(And by the way, he lives in my town, Sugar Land, TX. People here all seem to think he's dirt.)

Manny was friggin awesome! He was my favorite Sox of all time by far. I love the way you would hit a homerun and knew he got it. Although a pitcher struck him out he just put his head down and walk to the dugout. When he left for LA I was bummed. Papi was awesome. One of the most clutch years I’ve ever seen. The whole 2013 World Series was Papi going crazy by himself and a couple guys chipping in here and there. Manny was pretty clutch to that’s why Papi got so many good pitches to hit.

Who are you talking about Manny Ramirez? I never heard of anything about Manny messing around with a 15-year-old girl. I know he had his problems in Boston, but nothing like that, that I’ve ever heard of. He was my favorite player when he was in Boston.

A lot of people said Manny didn’t care about playing baseball, but yet he’s over in Japan or somewhere still playing baseball for very little money. So whoever thinks that he didn’t care their wrong. Who in their mid-40s plays for what would be less than the league minimum in the MLB somewhere else just to be playing baseball? Manny Ramirez!

Read the post I responded to. It was about the sick and lying Clemens.

The longest thread in the history of BDC was one I started called, "No Manny- No Rings".

Manny was certainly not without his faults. Far , far from it. However, I tend to give a lifetime pass to anyone who contributed to a Sox championship. A championship that I had come to think I would never see. Now we have three , with number four within grasp. Manny certainly contributed and then some. Edited by dgalehouse

He sure did. While papi got much of the glory, and well-deserved I might add, Manny set the table for many of those moments- some with BBs, some with hits, some with earlier RBIs that allowed Papi's hit to be the game winner.

No Manny- No Rings in '04 or '07.

i don't think that there would be one Red Sox fan who would question the talent at the plate that Manny Ramirez had. He helped lead this team to championships. He was just big old free wheeling fun loving Manny right? If people didn't like Manny they just don't get it right. Hey - I appreciated what he did and was glad that we had him. There is a big difference between not really liking his act and appreciating his ability to hit. It is ok to folks to feel this way. It doesn't have to be one side or the other. But hey - I don't have to like Clemens to still appreciate what he meant to this franchise either. I'm thinking that might be one of the reasons I like this team so much. I don't see any fools. Maybe I'm missing something I guess but all I see are players who are focused and not in need of constant attention.

Exactly. This team seems very nonselfish. They often pick each other up after one makes a mistake or does poorly.

I love this team!

I don't disagree with anything that's here regarding team chemistry, picking one another up, having fun, etc., etc., etc., but I also always remember that winning cures a lot of ills.

It's kinda like the chicken and egg argument. Having that great run early in the year certainly helped set the tone for the season.

Congrats sox fans on your AL pennant.

I was away on a fishing trip for the weekend so I wasn't on the internet.

Did Joe West get the ALCS MVP?

You're still fishing!
