It is entirely possible that the rotation that starts out 2019 will have three new members. That’s a vastly different team

I'd be surprised, if it doesn't have 3 newbies. Tanaka & Sev return. Gray has to win a spot or will be traded.

We got our wish. Boone indeed turned out to be a doofus.

ESPN New York, I think it was Chris Canty, said that Boone manages like a malfunctioning computer. That is pretty harsh. But the Bradley Jr. argument didn't make any sense. He keeps Sabathia in for an extra batter or two so that the Yankees have a favorable match-up against Jackie Bradley Jr? With all due respect to Bradley Jr., the guy isn't a very good hitter and (without looking) I don't think he has been hitting very well lately. Who cares about Bradley Jr., he isn't an offensive threat. Instead, Boone should have been more aware of Kinsler and Nunez's favorable numbers against Sabathia and made a move.

At the very minimum he should have pulled him after Kinsler's hit. He's got all his best relievers lined up including ones that can go 2 innings.

If the Yankees pass on him, which most people seem to think will happen, will Sabathia retire or sign somewhere else because the fire is still burning and that was a s***** way to go out?

He'll play next year, likely for the Angels.

NL teams won't touch Sabathia

Good point. He'll get hurt the first time he swings a bat or tries to get out of the batters box on the way to 1B.

I could see the Rays or Guardians making a move for him.

If the Astros lose Keuchel and Morton...

Last night the announcers said that cc hadn't had a single putout at 1B for the entire season. That is shocking.

He is from the Bay area, I could see the A's making a minor one year investment in Sabathia.

If the Yankees bring him back, it has to be as a 5th starter only. You don't want Sabathia starting playoff games. He can't do that anymore.

Not at all, we lost a playoff series.

Would I have liked to win, sure.

But we've lost them before and will lose them again. Hardly "butt hurt".

Hurts so much, you can't bear to be honest about it.

is he willing to be a 7th or 8th inning guy?

The best part is that Boone will likely be back.

unfortunately, I think you are right. Cashman is a stubborn SOB.

I can't believe how some Sox "fans" complain about Cora, I'd change managers in a heartbeat

I think he will be back, his clubhouse presence has some value; he will be in an incentive based contract.

I wouldn't swap Cora for anyone.

There is a 1% chance that Boone does not come back. I'm almost certain there is an end of season meeting between the manager and GM. I'd imagine Boone's performance will be reviewed and they'll touch on the areas where they feel he can improve, most notably when to manage by feel vs when to manage by the analytics. He's a rookie manager so it's not like he can't improve. And despite some boneheaded moves this year, he was probably the second best rookie manager this season behind Cora. And Cora had experience coaching other aspects of a team so he wasn't as green as Boone.

If I had to grade Boone's management for the ENTIRE season in my most unbiased attempt, I'd give him a C+.. maybe B-.

That's way too generous.

If I was only grading him for the postseason it would be a D+. No F because he managed the A's game very well.

For the entirety of the season he was passable. Made some of the usual dumb mistakes that most managers encounter throughout a season, he just had them happen a few times too many. There were also games where he made all the right moves but they got zero play because when something goes right it's because of the players.. managers only get credit when something goes wrong.

I partially agree with you, his shortcomings are more on the people who hired him with no coaching experience, he's not like Carlos Beltran, he was out of the game for some years, they put him in an impossible situation

The reason the team won 100 games is more related to the current talent on the team than his skills as a manager. He's a smart guy, he will be better next year but I hate how he messed up some key decisions in the playoffs

I think most managers would have won more than 100 games with the 2018 Yankees. I'd give him a D or D- for the season and an F for the playoffs.

Agree, even with Judge out for almost two months the team had enough talent to win 100 games.

I hope Cashman address the real weakness (SP) of this team, adding some depth especially in the IF, some regression need to be expected from the rookies (sophomore slump), the league will keep making adjustments on them.

Cashman did do a lot to address the SP'er situation, and it seemed like the Yankee fans who frequent our board liked the starters until the playoffs came along.

He traded for Gray last summer.

He traded for Happ and Lynn this summer.

Yes, he needs to think higher level this winter.

Cashman not trading for Verlander last year looks bad in retrospect. Houston gave up their 3rd 9th and 11th prospects.

Cora just seemed more prepared and ready for the job than did Boone. Cora probably also benefitted from having an experienced bench coach in Ron Roenicke alongside him. Boone probably could have used that. To me , he often came across as indecisive. He constantly used terms like " a little bit " and " kind of " in explaining his decisions.

I agree, it didn't make much sense. With the bullpen that they have, Boone should have pulled Sabathia at the first sign of trouble. Maybe Boone was trying to show CC some respect or something, I don't know. It worked out for us, thankfully.

As I posted about the Red Sox past eliminations, it always hurts. It doesn't take anything away from how enjoyable the regular season might have been, but it always hurts to be eliminated.
