It’s not Happenstance some Red Sox are taking live BP off Drew Pomeranz now. Betts, Martinez, Leon, Holt, Moreland, Bradley, Nunez among them.

I thought it was April Fools Day.

If Poms comes out for even an inning I would throw up. Don't think my heart could handle that inning.

Actually, Pom is finally providing something the Sox can use--a batting practice pitcher who might help them get ready for Happ. Both lefties, both around 6'5 1/2" tall. But one can pitch and the other, well, the Sox are paying him $14.3M not to pitch in the ALDS.

Very true! As much wasted money as it is we just can't risk it. The guy had so many chances to show signs he could be ready come playoff time but there was absolutely nothing there.

Pom is making 8.5 mill this year.

The one thing I will say about Poms is he seems to be a passionate player. There are some players that honestly wouldn't give a s*** if they got that contract and sucked. Happens all the time in NFL with young QB'S. (Brock Osweiler) But Poms legit looks so upset with himself after every start that he can't pitch to what he wants. I'm not saying I know the guy, but he looks like he really cares and it bothers him how he is pitching this year. Hopefully he gets it figured out eventually with whatever team he happens to land on.

Against the Yankees , there is really not an urgent need for a lefty reliever. Pomeranz will not make the cut. Most likely Poyner , Scott and Johnson won't either. Edited by dgalehouse

So this is going to be a new experience for me. I've never seen the Sox and Yankees in the playoffs. I vaguely remember the 2004 ALCS and have no recollection of watching the games on TV, only talking about them the day after with my kindergarten teacher. I turned 6 during the night of game 3 of that series, the 19-8 game. I remember even less about the World Series that year. So I can definitely say that I am in for a treat.

Speaking of birthdays, FWIW, Here's one of my many recollections from the 2004 WS:

With two outs in the 9th of game 4 I can remember Joe Buck saying at about 11:25 that night, " I know the Red Sox have a 3 run lead but there isn't a fan in New England who's confident right now". I remember the time because I can also remember thinking that if they could put off winning for another half hour they could win it on my birthday. I was torn between getting it over and winning it and knowing that a lot (bad) can happen in a half hour of baseball.

Strange things we remember.....

Buck made some great calls and great comments that offseason. That was one of them.

Maybe one of the reasons I remember it is because I thought it was a great observation that was very much in tune with the feelings of Red Sox Nation. The Sox were leading the series 3-0, one out away from clinching the WS, and still there was a bit of an aura of impending doom.

"Yeah, but what if.....?"

Plus we wasted a couple of scoring opportunities late in that game as I recall.

My 5th birthday was the night of the Boone walk off. I don't remember that one at all. The first sports memories I have are 2004.

I remember my dad telling me he was offered 2 tickets to the 19-8 game, but forgot tot ell me.

I have never forgiven him for that!

I remember, as a 16 year old, watching the 1975 WS, keeping score of every game, and many of the events of the series.

Fisk's big HR.

Bernie Carbo's.

Luis Tiant running the bases (and almost overrunning them).

Ed Armbrister's interference no call that handed a game to the Reds.

My first Sox memories are with Tommy Harper, Yaz, Rico & Luis Aparicio. I remember us finishing second to the Tigers by a half game in '72 due to the unbalanced schedule the strike caused.

Other than throwing BP...

...like making a playoff roster.

True. This team can worry about Pom after this season. All I care about is that he doesn't sniff the field through the playoffs. Even if we have an 8 run lead I still don't want to see him.

So how does postseason mojo work? If I lose, am I done for the playoffs?

Consultation with the Board Elders is needed on that one.
