Valezquez should have started all those Pomeranz games. He has done sneaky well in his appearances.

JD needs to hit 3rd, Cora.

Why?

Winning the series is always the goal. As frustrating as the offense was today, the goal was accomplished.

Can't really complain.

Losing games here and there is normal and not worrisome. Slipping into a hitting slump is somewhat worrisome as we are going in against a hot Cleveland team. A split against them would be a good result. It's like the long season is wearing on the team and they need a boost to get going again. I'm hoping they find something which can energize them.

Why?

I don't see any issue with JDM batting 4th. What we need is for the top of the order to reach base more frequently, so that bringing him up puts pressure on the pitcher. Mookie has cooled off temporarily and Beni is hitting but mainly singles. Either Pearce or Moreland are solid hitters and I have no problem with them in the 3rd slot.

The Sox are not in an extended hitting slump by any means. They did score 12 runs in the first 2 games of this series.

I have no concerns with our offense as of now.

Let's see how the team looks after the series with Cleveland.

I saw Alex Cobb shut down the Guardians yesterday in a 9 inning Complete Game, he has lost 15 games this year. Friday night Guardians only scored 2 runs off the O's too.

If Sox Pitch I never worry about any game. Sometimes you have to tip your Cap to your Opponent.

High OB (.400 vs Moreland .322) and he gets to hit in the first. Moreland did well at cleanup, just not hitting 3rd.

The player who bats 4th gets more RBI chances than the guy who bats 3rd, despite getting 20-30 less PAs over a season.

Earl Weaver said it best "Nothing Matters, except that little hump of dirt in the middle of the Diamond".

Earl knew his stuff.

How do you propose to make amends?

I'm glad you admitted it up front. Seppuku is your only recourse.

I’m open to suggestions. Perhaps something not as severe as spilling out my innards by my own blade...

I'm not sure that's enough.

No stats to back it up, but it seems that the Sox usually come back with 10 runs, after a stinker like yesterday's game.

This game was fascinating because once again the Rays started a reliever who didn't last long and who was followed by another reliever who went 4 followed by 3 more relievers who completed the shut out.

Only that 4 inning reliever faced our lineup more than once, and I think that is a key to their success. Most hitters do better the second time around against the starter and even better than that the third time around. I think the Rays manager has used that advantage--preventing opposing lineups from facing the starter 2 or more times-- for the better part of this season.

Plus he does another thing. If he starts a lefty, that often means the primary reliever (3 or more innings) will be a righty and vice versa if a righty starts. Thus the opposing manager doesn't know whether to use a righty-heavy or lefty-heavy lineup. The starters--actually, short term relievers-- under this system appear to be used to get the other teams' managers to commit on their lineups. This then allows the Rays manager to pick the most advantageous "primary" reliever to go 3 or 4 innings.

Not even my at game mojo could save your ass.

Too bad the team couldn't win for you.

At least you had those awesome seats behind home plate!
