Before Jacko does it.

Inflamed shoulders. So resident docs, what can we expect?

It is no doubt from that stupid, unnecessary head first slide into home plate. He grabbed it right away. Manny anyone?

Does this open the door for B.Phillips, with the Holt/Nunez platoon moving to 3b?
I think the door just got kicked open for Phillips. is he ready yet?

Yes, because Manny Ramirez is the only Red Sox player that would slide head first unnecessarily.

Or does it open the door for the Sox to dig deeper into Manny Machado talks?

It doesn't matter if you like or don't like Machado. What matters is, Dombrowski apparently does...

I believe he has less than 9 innings under his belt in MLB.

He does have more time than that at 2B.

Pearce to 2B. Holt/Nunez to 3B. Done

By which I mean, all infield defense is Boston would be officially done...

What do you think the sox could offer for machado and would it be enough to beat out other teams' offers?

Wow I didn't know Devers was going to the DL. I heard it here first!

I think the Sox have the pieces to trade for Machado, but I don't think they will beat out other team's offers, simply because it's not worth it to them to do so. They're already the top scoring team on a 9 game win streak.

Exactly. I just don't understand the continual furor to acquire Machado who would either be an expensive rental for 2018 or a very expensive long term acquisition. He's a very good 3b or SS, but we already have one of each and for a lot less money and their hitting ain't half bad. Bogie could go over .900 OPS soon. Devers is a project, granted, but he's young and under control for a long time with a ton of potential if Cora can just get him to slide hide first more often.

MVP78 says he is a Lin fan, and I am too.

I was referring to Manny Machado and getting him, but Manny Ramirez did the same stupid thing.

So we have Devers hurting himself sliding head first, Vasquez breaking a finger sliding head first, Bogaerts sliding head first into first on several occasions just daring the injury Gods. Is this a subset of one of the few weaknesses of the Sox, which is base running in general?

The Sox best pieces to trade for Machado are guys like Benintendi and Devers ... which is not great for 3 months of Machado.

Without a long term deal in place, trading for Machado makes little sense (especially if you are competing with the Yanks for Machado).

Whatever happened to sliding feet first? That was taught to all young ball players of my generation and seldom resulted in more than a little raspberry. We played on gritty diamonds.

Thank Pete Rose for popularizing the headfirst slide.

Machado will cost at least 35 million per year over 7-10 years... That may be the bigger question than the one year rental is... Even if you can sign him, this is what you're faced with if you wish to hold onto him. There will be no sentiment about his securing the best contract possible.

I suspect the Yanks are in heavy for him now that they're a few games back... gotta to up the ante to catch and surpass the Sox. They have the prospects that can get it done and can outbid any team outside the division. And now they have the money to spend on a huge contract next summer.

Devers said he injured shoulder on a dive back into first vs Mariners. He said an MRI showed no major injury, just inflammation. He expects to be back in the second game after AS break.

Machado is a perfect fit for the Yankees.

It'll be easy for Sox fans to despise him.

I wonder if it was the same shoulder. Maybe he should start sliding feet first.

Extremely easy since he said he has no respect for the ENTIRE organization. He could be the next Arod in terms of hatred!

"From 2011 to 2015, 1633 injuries occurred as a result of a slide. The total number of days missed per season was 4263. Maybe Force-Outs at every base would solve the sliding problem. This would, of course, end all run-downs: once you leave one base, you can't return to the prior base.

I don't think the baserunning is a weakness. I like some aggressiveness and accept the mistakes. But the normal standard on talksox is that any attempt to stretch a single or double or score from 2b or 1b on a single or double or an SB attempt is a mistake unless the guy is safe. If he is out, it's a blunder with no exceptions.

Too bad we don't have Daniel Nava anymore. He's the only Sox baserunner I know of who failed to advance from 2b on a ball hit over the rightfielder's head that got to the wall in right center. Nava would be the ideal baserunner for this fan base. Rule #1: be careful, be cautious, be safe. Rule #2: obey rule #1.

Did Nava get thrown out trying to score on a popup to the catcher behind home plate at Fenway?

Correction: He was trying to advance to 2nd base.
