Gallardo, righty vs. Velazquez, righty

On paper, Velazquez has a big edge (much lower ERA), but Gallardo got a win in his last start and Velazquez hasn't gone more than 3 innings in three months. Who's our long reliever after that with Johnson and Wright both on the DL? Don't say Swihart because he's probably catching. This is a dire situation, folks. Did I forget to mention that the lineup players are exhausted what with the hot weather, way too much scoring and running around the bases, no travel day after the grueling series in DC, etc? That it's the Boston Red Sox vs. the Texas Rangers, which means we're bringing a bunch of dirty socks to a gunfight?

They brought Beeks up today, so as much as it scares me he may be long relief.

If the sox win today they'll be 35 games over .500 for the first time since the next to the last day of 2004.

Beeks should be in the rotation.

I am curious... and trying to be hopeful.

If his bat doesn't come around this season, he's a cooked goose.

Does Pearce play any other position?

1b/rf/lf mostly. A teeny bit of 2b (replacement level). A minuscule sample at 3b (not good).

Alex Cora said he expects 6-12 outs from Velazquez tonight. From there game situation will dictate how the ‘pen is used.

Holy cannoli!

Holy cannoli!

I will avoid him in FanDuel.

What happened, did Nunez not set his alarm clock for gametime ? Alex gives and takes away keeping it interesting, if not always effective. Standard OF alignment to calm everyone down.

Nunny standing there like a statue and letting a ground ball play him last night probably did not thrill Cora. Nunny picked the ball up after it banged off his glove and made the play. But it was just a horrible effort on his part. Nobody but nobody playing infield just stands there and lets the ball come to them.

Nunez starts about 2 out of 3 games at 2B. This isn't a big surprise.

So mostly a Moreland platoon. If the playoff start today, I would sit JBJ and DH Pearce and JDM can play the corner OF.

Yes, I think these winning streaks are making us all a little nuts.

I would not be surprised if Nunez's legs are shot at this stage due to the # of games he has played back to back. Bad legs also lead to bad backs. The guy could be just worn out. More reason to question why Cora plays him 2/3rds of the time

Man there is a fine line between aggressive hitting and just don't give a damn. The Rangers are way across the line into just don't give a damn.

9 pitch 1st inning. When's the last time we've seen that?

You would think they would try to give themselves a chance against a relief pitcher starting and they just don't care.
