To be fair, the man did use his movie star fame to run for mayor of a city just so he could change some parking regulations at his restaurant. That's really not all that cool...

Plus his last 3 films really sucked. His most recent one could be one of thee worst movies of all time. Seriously. Just bad. Lifetime movie network bad. Maybe worse?

Actually, a very good flick. He seems to take a minimalist approach to directing, but he is very, very good at it. And most of the time he does that while also acting in those movies. He's OK and sometimes good as an actor.

I have Hunter S Thompson as my first base coach giving anyone who lands on first mescaline.

This would "speed up" the game.

Trouble with the Fastball was pretty good. Kind of formulaic but good anyway.

"The Gauntlet" was unimpressive. But then that can be said about anything with Sondra Locke in it...

Wasn't it "Trouble with the Curve"?

Yup, she pretty much ruined Sudden Impact.

Ahh. I was worried that there were two movies, and I missed the first one! LOL

Yeah you are probably right. I'm high as balls.

Did you see it? I thought it was cute.

But I like the topics.

If I were still coaching that movie would be required watching for all my pitchers, just so they could see the motion of the "phenom".

Cl;int Eastwood, Amy Adams and baseball? That is a formula for cinematic perfection to me. So yes, I saw it but was disappointed. Although I agree it was a cute and predictable movie. It felt like "The Phemon" from the scouts point of view...

Oddly enough, one movie that gave some really good insight into coaching and managing was "Little Big League," which seemed like such a stupid idea for a movie, and yet it worked on many levels. Very underrated baseball movie...

Trouble with the Gyroball really sucked.

I like any baseball movie and certainly Amy Adams and usually Clint, but I thought the central idea was a stretch. Remember, her father put her with a family when she was like 6, so presumably most of her baseball knowledge came from those early years. Now, suddenly, at age 30 and after going to college and law school and becoming a very good litigator, she has great insights and instincts about baseball prospects? I believe at the end of the movie Clint's character says she's ready to be a GM right now. Also, Clint can hear a guy's swing and can tell he has trouble with the curve?

I don't know how that game last night ended up so long. It seemed like every pitcher was working with a very short pitch clock. Anyone know if they told the pitchers to work fast?

Artistic license.

It was not a documentary.

Oh yeah. Totally unbelievable with a predictable ending. It stretched the idea of "Temporary suspension of disbelief" but entertaining nonetheless. The first time I saw that kid throw I knew how the movie was going to end. But what the hell? :-) It was the kid's motion that impressed me and made the movie worth the price of admission. I spent the entire movie waiting to see him throw again.

I'm still wondering if some of the old time scouts can hear a defect in someone's swing though. I don't think it's impossible. Some of those old timers really knew what they were doing.

JT as a Red Sox scout. What’s not to love?

Real talk...loved the ending with the kid throwing seeds behind the hotel...

Daniel Day-Lewis would be my coach. "There Will Be Blood".

When it comes to inspirational movie speeches, no one will ever top Bluto Blutarski.

“Was it over when the ...Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”

Which is why Bluto would be my coach...

Here's what I don't get about those who hate the ASG. I'm watching it right now and everyone out there is really trying. The NFL Pro Bowl and especially the NBA All-Star game are pretty much shams because nobody wants to play hard or rough. The NBA All-Star game is very much an exhibition, much like the Harlem Globetrotters with virtually no defense.

It helps that a big part of baseball is the contest between pitcher and batter.

Good post. Baseball is the only sport that is really perfect for an All-Star game. If there have been any flaws, it is more how the voting has been conducted than the game itself.

It is close. McQueen would beat him in a car race, but Clint's takes shits that are bigger than McQueen. Clint is a big fella and McQueen was a little guy. Speaking of Mitch, Robert Mitchum should be on the list.

Pretty boy James Dean would give McQueen a good run for his money in a car race.
