Unfortunately, Pedroia is toast. We should not be counting on him for anything in the future. IMO he should retire to save his knee the additional wear and tear it will be exposed to trying to play baseball.

I fully agree with you. My comment was not a recommendation to wait until next year ( if a worthwhile , cost effective , and controlled 2nd baseman is available grab him ) I was only speculating what the Sox are likely to do.

I wan't him to retire but I bet he gives it a try in the spring.

The next team that gets Harper should hire Papelbon as Bryce's personal motivational coach. :D

Now that would be worth watching!

Posted
Maybe so but his FB is a thing of the past with no evidence of it returning anytime soon.

I do understand why the Sox won't quit on the guy easily.

But there comes a point when even dumb people see obvious things clearly.

Well, except for trump cultists.

Harper would irritate a clubhouse of just two guys. Himself and anyone else.

Not sure why fans don’t like Harper. For a guy who was labeled “the LeBron of Baseball” at 15, he has handled himself pretty well. To me, he always looks like he is having fun out there...

He's sort of an easy target, I guess, because of the hair, the perceived attitude issues, and the failures of his teams to get past the LDS. Plus he's hitting .219 in his contract year.

So the skankees are targeting another pitcher. They’re desperate at this point. I wonder if dembrowski makes another move.

I have to admit that I haven't really followed him all that closely, but I have the impression that he is punk and a guy that is kind of full of himself. Just my impression.

Either way, I don't see the need for Harper.

I would not be surprised if the Yankees make another move. They have been scuffling for a little over a month now, while the Red Sox have been on a torrid pace. I wouldn't call them desperate, but I think they feel a sense of urgency.

I am fairly certain that Dombrowski will add a reliever before the deadline.

Only two days to go. Act soon or hold your peace DD.

I personally like Harper. I think he enjoys the game and has fun out there. I don't think we'll trade for him, and he may be a bit overrated, but I enjoy watching him play.

I think that I mentioned in another thread that Sam Kennedy told fans at a function that the Sox are very much interested in Harper.

Hmm. Where does he play?

Good question. To me it would mean that Bradley would be gone.

That's what I was thinking.

Not sure how I feel about that.

My guess is that he remains in Washington.

I'd rather have Scooter Gennett than Harper. There is a need SG but no big need for Harper. Big difference in money.

I told u pink hats the three stooges were toast! Now instead of getting that power arm DD needs a reliever. Lol

Kelly should have been dealt back in June along with Hembree to clear cash to go after a legit setup man.

Tax strapped is a beautiful thing! Thanks John Tom and Larry

73 and 33 - Where are the real cracks? Every team has weaknesses, every team has needs. Every team wants to get better. No team is going to win every game. Red Sox fans want to win them all and that isn't a bad thing. If we have to patch a team together for awhile, we won't be much unlike most teams. About the time I start to get down on Kelly or Thornburg etc., they come on out and get it done. I don't think that this team needs to make one move right now.

Should have signed Addison Reed for 16.75 million!!! Priceless!!!

You're a status quo guy. I believe in continuous improvement, where you look to shore up weaknesses. To me, doing nothing is a sure way to regress.

I am not a status quo guy at all. I think that Holt is more capable than you might of manning second base. Nunez is your sub for sure, super sub if you will. We have issues as does every other team. We all have our wish lists but in reality really I just don't see this team in worse shape than any other team and when you are likely the best team in baseball that is good. Don't try to paint me into a corner please by suggesting that I don't want to see us keep trying to improve. I just don't see a very good team as having any dire need for great changes at the present time. We won't fall apart in my opinion if we don't go out and add another bullpen arm or if we don't go out and overpay for a second baseman. Of course some of the names thrown around here as potential trade targets would make us stronger on paper, I just don't see the need that you do.

I'd take Mejia as our lefty reliever in a heartbeat if the Twins would let him go. He made our best guys look bad every time I have seen him pitch.

Dozer would be rental but if his defense is good I take him to specially with Devers not staying healthy and questionable fielding. Have Holt platoon with Devers and Nuniz our super sub

If you keep making mad dashes across the interstate your chances of becoming roadkill are pretty good too.

dozier has range of 4 where our second basemen has 3 and if Pedroia did retire could be a part our solution for few years as we have no one in farm ready to take over if not he help our pitching staff with his range maybe we have to if we got Meiji to see if we can trade Kelly or Nunez if put us over the cap as much as I hate it there not going to help in post season.

Dozer is going to cost more than we're likely to be willing to spend.

My target is old friend Jed Lowrie. He's currently on the last year of his deal with the A's, who are well known wheeler-dealers and currently despite a good year are at third place in their division and may look to sell off some older top performers, like Lowrie, to suppliment their youth movement

He's good on both sides of the ball, especially at 2B. He's old, so he's not going to cost a billion dollars to re-sign if we choose to. He has the utility to play at 3b if necessary, which is a plus as well. And he's hitting well this year.

I could easily see Billy Beane straight up dealing Lowrie for Brian Johnson or for a B+ prospect like CJ Chatham and a low ceiling high floor player like Mike Shawaryn. They have a top prospect 2B named Franklin Barreto who looks like he might be ready to take over the position, so they might even be able to make the move without seriously impacting their playoff hopes. They deal the veteran for a decent haul that addresses team needs and move their top prospect into the everyday lineup, they get cheaper, possibly get better, and we get a player who is immediately useful to us by addressing either or both of our biggest infield holes.

OAK gets

RHP Shawaryn

SS CJ Chatham

BOS gets

IF Jed Lowrie

It kind of comes down to what Beane's usually highly restrictive internal budget looks like, and whether he thinks he can buy enough talent to keep up the dogfight with Seattle for the last wild card spot, but I see a deal that could happen here that would be beneficial to both sides. Especially if it freed up salary to allow Beane to make another move that he felt would improve the team and increase his playoff chances

74 wins - I'm fine with this group but I'm sure DD is still looking.

Lorie not alavaible like I said trading Kelly and Nunez calling Lin up or Phillips because adding a starter Eovaldi we have a extra bullpen arm and So Kelly expendable with Pomeranz moving to bullpen. Steve Wright we still have to.
