Which do the Sox have to resign first given opt-outs, Sale or JDM?

My guess is they can only keep one.

Will JD's price tag really go up all that much as he gets years older?

It is hard to imagine any team carrying 4 massive contracts and still being deep enough to be highly competitive. Right now, Sale and Betts combined cost as much as one big contract.

You need guys like Betts, making little money, to balance out the big contracts. Who is our next Betts? Devers?

$33M Betts

$32M Sale

$31M Price

$25M JD.

That's $110M for just 4 guys. That's about half the luxury tax budget.

JDM seems to be a better bet to continue to perform over the long term. He could gain 20 lbs and still mash. I just wonder when Sale's body will give out.

I said at the time and I will repeat it now that I thought the cold weather effected JD maybe more than any other player on the roster. He was flat terrible in the OF at the start of the season not helped by the difficulties of playing in our own home OF positions. He looked like and played like a stick man. He is not great out there now. But he is not terrible now that we have more temperate weather particularly when ranked among the horrors that are filling ML unis these days.

My biggest concern about JD in the OF is now and was then the same. His bat is just too important to this team and the Fenway Park OF is the physically most dangerous OF in baseball which we know from our own experiences. No matter what he does in the grass of the Fenway Park OF we will rue the day we put JD out there the very day he slams into something out there or turns an ankle out there or makes a physical mistake with the myriad of issues confronted in the Fenway Park OF.

And I would not be patting myself on the back too hard for beating the Tigers either. They are a horrible team "competing" in a horrible division where the Guardians are eventually just going to run away and hide. Almost the entire Tigers rotation is convalescing and was not very good in the first place.

Meh. The risk is minor and worth it if JDM fills a need which he sometimes does. As for the Tigers, they win 46% of the time, on par with Tampa, Toronto, etc. So a sweep is by no means a sure thing. Even on the road they win 1/3 of the time. We were lucky catching them after they played a double header vs. the Yankees.

I have never been at a baseball game where people turned on their phone lights like is was a concert. Did the announcers mention it in the 7th inning before Miggy complained.

I can't answer that, but there was a story in the NY Post about it.

I've been watching JD play all season just like the rest of you. Calling him a stickman in the outfield along with the other terms used to describe him out there is ridiculous. Just admitting that he ain't that bad would be good for starters. No one needs to justify the early season criticism of him by doing that now that we have gotten into the season. the picture painted by past years statistics are just proving to be wrong. Simple as that. Oh by the way I'm betting that he could give a s*** about what any of his critics here think of his fielding abilities. He is doing the job.

The same reason behind doing the wave. Shrugs from me. And they did the wave at that game too.
