What the heck is Velazquez doing out there? Horrible choice. We need a guy who will strike everyone out, not somebody who gets ground outs, for crying out loud.

That is what I like about Holt. He is a throwback to the way baseball teams used to look. The dif between good and bad teams used to be how many star players a team had vs didn't have and whether or not you could pitch as a team. But the rest of the team even on the bad teams was full of players that knew how to play the game down through the roster and they had more everyday players for the most part. Didn't carry so many pitchers. It got so that you looked forward to seeing those guys get into the game.

Holt has turned himself into a very professional hitter for example...not a great hitter but a professional hitter and he knows how to play the game. Holt is as close to a professional ballplayer as you are going to see these days. But teams used to be chock full of Holts. No more.

I wonder what Jackie is actually looking at when the ball is in the air these days.

He is trying to find it or at least he thinks he is.

Actually that last response I gave to your question was a smart ass response and a serious question does not deserve a smart ass response.

JBJ actually is trying. But look at how good hitters hit and you won't find any of them tilting their heads at the start of their swing the way JBJ tilts his head. Once you've done that you are only going to see the ball so far as it approaches home plate and then you are going to lose the ball. That is why Jackie's head so often looks like he is jerking it around. He is desperately trying to keep his head on the ball because he knows he is supposed to and he knows he is losing sight of it as it approaches the plate. The only hits he gets with this swing will be if he catches the ball way out in front of the plate. Anything else is incidental contact for him at this point. Its luck if he fouls the ball off.

This could be hard to cure for Jackie. He is massively stubborn about his swing. Went through something like 500 AB's hopelessly before he finally relented in 2014 when he was twisting his torso so far toward the 3rd base dugout that you could see his whole back. Remember, they forced him to stomp hard with his front foot, so hard that he could not twist his torso and stomp at the same time? Eventually a normal weight shift and hip turn felt right to him and he got rid of the torso turn. This is a different problem and I just don't know if they can get to him this time. Maybe they can. Honest to God I don't know. He is pretty advanced in age to have this problem.

They appeal to millennials, which is the age group making the league the most money at the moment. But yes, they are from some point in the last two years. They don't do it anymore. I still don't know why. But, every time one of my GTs has ended in a win this season, I have brought it back.

LOL :0

I swear, if JBJ spent 1/2 the time he spent last year learning those routines, he'd be at least a slightly below average hitter.

I'd be f***ing fantastic with slightly below avg.

Millenials don’t make them the most money. They don’t buy season tickets. They don’t watch as much tv as the older generations.

True. In fact, millenials get bored watching baseball. The NBA is the most popular sport in America now.

I dug the dance. They had an article on it early in the year and I think it mentioned JD wasn't a fan and that's why they stopped it. He's a hell of a hitter, but I think he may be the kind of guy that hangs out in the corner of a party not talking to anyone and slips in watching vids of his at bats on his smartphone. To each their own.

I'm a millennial, and I think they look ridiculous. I don't care if they do it, everyone has their rituals, especially baseball players and fans. But I don't eagerly anticipate it, and it definitely doesn't appeal to me. It reminds me of all the stupid ostentatious touchdown celebrations.

Nope, the NFL is by almost any measure except internationally.

Man, I'm being proven wrong a lot today. The point is, with the anthem protests last year, less people watched the NFL, while NBA television ratings are as high as they've ever been. After scouring the Internet, however, the NFL is still king, but the NBA has closed the gap considerably.

Really? You read that JD Martinez was responsible for this little celebration in the outfield ending? Guess I must have missed that one. I was hoping that maybe it was joint team decision. I actually think that it probably was.

Blaming NFL ratings on nice white folks angry at the anthem protest is total right-wing b.s. You will recall that BLM called for an NFL boycott before that, leading to the kind of double-think we are now getting used to: black leftists are hurting business by not buying our product!!!!!! Bad evil black people!!! the people not buying our product are good, decent white folks who do not like black people not buying our product!!! Poor patriotic white folks!--we need to lure them back.

In retrospect the dance was maybe not a good idea, but I kind of liked it because they were all young and relatively small and overall pretty darn good. Plus the team was winning. If JD was the one who killed it, that makes sense and it's fine with me.

As for millenials not watching a lot of MLB games on TV, I think that's very understandable. When I was their age, I thought it was insane to do so. Now I'm an addict.

Isn't this pretty much how all rumors get blown out of proportion? Maybe I'm wrong but I guess I would have to actually see the article before I came to this conclusion.

If you're calling me right wing, that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I'm not just going to make up something like that. Why would I. But I'm searching for the article and can't find it, which looks bad. I'm pretty sure it said JD didn't want to do the dance and one other. And they all were somewhat in the opinion it was time to end it. Which seems right to me.

This what has been reported in the local media.

I believe you did read that about JD. Your word is good enough for me.
