This is what playoff baseball is all about...

That is what I tried to convince myself of last year. "All these extra inning games are really preparing us for the post season". That rationalization fell apart in a hurry.

Cora lost this one. What a stupid move bringing up Johnson.

There wasn't many other options to put in. There is a lot of people to blame for this game, but I don't think Cora is one of them.

That had to be one of the most infuriatingly frustrating games I've ever watched.

Seriously........ that just had bad vibes all over it.......... I feel dirty...

Terrific throw by JD, but of course that doesn't count because he's a terrible leftfielder.
He isn't as good as the other 3 OFers, but imo JD is a good OFer. He was a gold glove finalist a few years back. People can scoff if they like about the award, but while the award may not go to the most deserving player at time, the award winners and finalists are usually good fielders. JD doesn't need to be replaced defensively. We could have used his bat after he was removed, and Mookie could have PH for Vasquez.

Why would you throw through there Vazquez? Man is he having an awful year.
What did the announcers say about that play? From where I was sitting, if Bogaerts took the throw coming toward the plate and immediately threw home, I think he would have nabbed the runner. Poor play by Bogey who I think was caught off guard, but a worse play by Vasquez.

If they lose this game (which its looking like) this is a horrible one. The defense has been absolutely horrible.
I can take the physical errors, but the mental errors are killers. Vasquez pulled a couple of bad rocks tonight on the double steal and the catcher's balk. The catcher's balk was a new one for me. I had never seen one of those in person. I'm not sure that I have seen one on TV. I didn't even know what had happened. I thought maybe Smith hadn't come to the set position. The person next to me got the information on a phone call.

We gave away a win tonight. We are a far superior team and lost a Sale start. That has to stop. Despite all the physical and mental errors, this team still fought back and almost won. That's the good news. We have to hope that this doesn't happen too often. If it starts becoming a pattern, it will be a coaching issue.

They didn't like Vazquez throwing through, and thought his low throw made it so Bogaerts didn't have much of a chance of getting the runner at home, it was just a dumb play by Vazquez.

With the exception of Palmeiro winning the GG for 1B when he only played about five games there that season.

And Jeter after he had become a statue.

Glad you posted this. This is really the first time (this year) that I have seen him in the outfield. I just don't see him as being as bad as most here seem to think he is. I'll admit though that I don't care at all about what his past defensive metrics say. I'm much more interested in the now. I liked that throw he made vary much!

Most of the catchers today I think will throw through on the delayed double steal. Last night Vazquez's throw was pathetic. Right choice I think but pathetic execution.

Also I'm wondering why Nunez was even brought in to last nights game? I can see him starting and then being replaced for defensive purposes but I was surprised to see him replace a guy in game (Lin) who appears to be a far superior fielder.

JD has been the worst defensive regular OFer in baseball over the past 2 seasons. He’s got a great arm, that isn’t the problem. His range sucks, he takes bad routes and anything over his head he is afraid of hitting the wall.

I don't like Nunez at all, but he hit the game-tying dinger in the 12th and was in the game for his bat.

Cora's attempt to rest players didn't work out so well this time. The team went to extra innings, Betts and Nunez played anyway and the pitching staff was used for extra inning duty. No guarantee our best lineup would have won the game but this is one to remember, regarding the rest strategy. How this works out in the long run is open for discussion.
