I hate both Holt and Moreland.

They both suck and are total wastes of money!!!!!!

Please don't compare Moreland to Holt. Moreland money well spent. Holt still sucks. I wouldn't do back flips over .205 hitter making $2M+.

Just imagine how good this team would be without Moreland and Holt!

I see what you're doing there.

What was Dombrowski thinking, huh?

It's all good, Nick. The team's 15-2 and you've still got your whipping boy.

What will you do if Holt has a couple of good games and is hitting .280 though?

He sucks!!!1!!!!! Total waste of money!!!!

We could have over paid for a mediocre 3rd baseman!

DD screwed my Sox by handcuffing them with a 2/13 mil deal!!!!!1!1!1

Plus the fact that he sacrificed the entire future of our franchise by signing Moreland and keeping Holt. Freakin DD

Perhaps the biggest plus Pedey will bring to the team is that Nunez will gobble up most of Holt's and Swihart's PAs.

You're saying it would be good if Swihart has no chance to contribute?

No, I'm saying I'd prefer Nunez at bat over Holt & Swihart. I'd prefer Nunez in LF, defensively over either of them.

Holt might be better on defense than Nunez at 2B, SS & 3B, but I'm not sure.

My guess is, Nunez is better than Swihart, defensively at 3B.

Swihart can get ABs at catcher and PH'er, and if someone gets hurt, he can play more, but a squeeze is going to happen when Pedey comes back. We didn't sign Nunez to ride the bench.

Lmao scary thought hahaha. Hard to believe we could be winning games in a more convincing way.

On the plus. Porcello has looked absolutely outstanding!!!!

That makes sense. I like Swihart a lot as do others, but his versatility as a catcher-infielder-outfielder is not such a great fit with this team. Of the five backups used so far--Swihart, Moreland, Lin, Holt, and Leon--he has been used the least while the team as a whole has flourished. He has in fact not been used as a catcher and maybe once for one inning at 3b. His one start was as the DH, which is also where he pinch hits in late innings with a big Sox lead. He has the fewest at bats among all position players. And goodness knows Cora emphatically believes in playing everyone.

I didn't watch much last night, but the detailed summary says a lot of Angels had line drive outs.

I find my self thinking about this every day. I was giving a hard think this morning about Leon and his value to the team. It didn’t last long. The moment I realized if Vaz got hurt and we didn’t have Leon to go to we’d be absolutely f***ed.

Then on to Swihart. I really like his mechanics (?) at the plate. His swing. The fact he’s Switch hitter. I like his speed on the base paths (tho some say he’s only fast for a catcher... but from what I’ve seen I would have to disagree). I think it’s also telling that the Sox keep trying to find multiple positions on the field for him to play (This week it was 2B, practicing w/ Pedroia). I think the Sox like his swing too. Enough to put all this time and effort into him. And yes, if he had any options left he’d be doing all this in the minors. But still. They could easliy have labeled him PR/PH/OF/C and left it at that if they didn’t see any further potential. I don’t think they want to lose him to another team when the squeeze happens.

And your right, Nunez isn’t riding the bench. I loved that pick-up last season. I loved bringing him back too. If any player that makes Holt reduntant, it’s Nunez. And I like Holt. I just wouldn’t want to lose Swihart (potential) or Leon (insurance) or even Lin (IF Defense, Potential) over him.

Edit: technically we won’t lose Lin. But w/ both Nunez & Holt, I doubt he ever sees the light of day.

With our catcher OPS below .500, I'm surprised we have not PH for them more often.

I guess being ahead 9-0 eliminates the need to PH. Nevermind.

Two big differences between this team and last year's team at least from the first couple of weeks:

1) Good riddance to the Farrell led "lets take two strikes and then think about swinging at what is left" approach

2) Starting pitching. We are so fortunate to have the starting pitching we have compared to the teams we are facing

Seen it over and over so far. Not sure if the focus on power pitching is the cause but most of these guys can't hack it as starters. Saw it again with Skaggs last night. Started the night with a decent, tight curve ball. 40 pitches in it had flattened out. Was not nearly as tight or as deep and it was getting tagged. A fearsome pitch turned into a meatball. Either their velo falls off a cliff or they simply cannot maintain command of their off speed stuff.

We are now 7th in HRs- just 2 away from 4th and 5 away from the lead. (We are tied with the "slugging" Yanks at 22.)

Maybe tonight, we move into 3rd place!

He looked pretty calm and cool out there. Even when he gave up a hit he would turn around the next pitch and throw a perfect strike. His mechanics seem to improve since last year and it shows. 3 fantastic starts. Has not given up a single run in his last 2 starts..... I believe? Lol.....

LoL!

Didn’t know you don't like Moreland Spud. At least he had a decent game last night.
