Despite what happened to Smith, this one is not on the pitching staff.

Price, 14 IP over 2 games, 0 runs allowed, 1 run of support.

I literally said in my post the offense scored 0 runs. They sucked, so did Smith.

Christ the first base coach walking back to the dugout looks like he is on a death march and he only has what....30 feet to go?

How is this guy not removed after that blast is beyond me

Cora may be playing a bit of the marathon here. Smith is a sinkerballer, he needs to get his arm a bit tired to enhance that sink. The only way to do that is to pitch.

Or maybe the Rays just have Smith's number. Every pitcher has a team he dominates and one he has a lot of trouble with. Tazawa in his best years in Boston was lights out against pretty much everyone except the Blue Jays (especially in Toronto).

Absolutely true. Hard to blame the pitching staff--including the bullpen--when the hitting is this bad. Whoops, there goes two more rubber tree plants--JBJ and Vazquez just struck out to end the 8th.

I say again, this positively, absolutely is not on the pitching. it's on a bunch of candy asses who can't hit.

I totally agree that this is on the offense. This was a BULLPEN GAME for the Rays....My God!!!!

But my concern for Smith is that you just cannot grove a pitch so bad to a duffy that he takes you over the CF fence. I would not put him back into a game until he shows some signs of not being that wild in the strike zone with nothing pitches. If this were not the rays....there would be holes in the fences from 1 inning of Smith.

what different bats? leon? moreland? holt? swihart? it wont matter. the big guys need to hit, jd, beni, hanley, etc. only guy who hit ball hard today really was mookie.

Absolutely right. The hitters need to hit and clearly are not.

I maybe have missed a total of 10 to 20 pitches this year but if we don't come back now, I'm taking a break to watch and play some golf. It might be a sport that is boring to some but this offense has been putting me to sleep since the season started.

Just looking for a tie at this point ....my God this is the Rays we are getting shut out by ....

As has been pointed out many times, the worst team in baseball is still going to win 54 games and the best team is going to lose 54; its what you do with the other 54 that determines the season.

This game also shows you that ANY pitcher pitching at the major league level can shut down another club; its how often they can do it that separates the good from the average from the poor.

I think the issue is that we have not hit anybody in 7 games. This was a bullpen game for the Rays and we did not hit a single guy out of that corp either.

I've been overseas for the first week, so I haven't had the "pleasure" of watching the futility like many of you.
