Last 2 games were interesting to say the least. Betances goes out and throws a clean inning in game 3. Instead of being content with that, he runs him back out there to a predictable disaster. Today, he walks the same handed Donaldson to face the lefty swinging Smoak (I know he’s a switch) who is already killing us and it backfires. It was just asinine. You load the bases to face Smoak with a 1 run lead, so KRob cannot afford to walk him and he had to come in with a full count. Just dumb

So apparently it was DRob who told Boone he wanted to face Smoak. Going into the AB Donaldson had much better numbers vs DRob than Smoak. Oh well.

Intentionally walking a batter almost never favors the pitching team. Almost never. Like the sac bunt, intentional walks are overused and misused. This is another case where most managers have not caught up with what sabermetrics are telling them.

I would have thought Boone knew better. But even if Boone did, as Cora seems to emphasize, you have to get the players to buy into it.

Managers need to be smarter than their players. I’d rather have seen robertson work carefully to Donaldson with the leeway to walk him instead of loading the bases and forcing him to go after Smoak

Managers do need to be smarter than their players, but more importantly, they need to be able to get their players to buy into their decisions. If the player isn't buying it, chances are it won't work.

Just dumb. You're up 3, you bring in a rookie who puts two guys on. You don't wait for him to put 2 more guys on before going to the pen. He doesn't get it
It's the new breed of managerial stupidity.

We should start the over/under for Boone to be fired

I think the Yankees should hire that Chicano broad from ESPN to be the bench coach and to keep her Buddy company.

Who???

Wow, Yankees fans booing the reigning MVP in his (home) debut for them. What total pieces of s***.

We demand greatness. And anyway I heard some of the Boston sports radio shows after their loss, so my response to any noise around here would be about calling the kettle black or whatever the hell the saying is.

The biggest takeaway from our first 5 games is that our rotation held well. Our offense was hit or miss, our pen was mismanaged and struggled. We need Boone to have a little more urgency. If youre giving a rookie some run out of the pen, have a safety net ready should the kid start giving up the game. If you have a reliever with a fragile psyche, don't throw him out there for multi inning performances in close games. If the guy who is killing you is on deck, don't walk the batter before him intentionally to pitch to him and allow the game winners. Stuff like that. To this point, I am not impressed with Boone

We know about the " hat trick " and the dreaded " golden sombrero " . We need a phrase for a 5 K humiliation. Maybe something in Italian that rhymes with Giancarlo.
