Oh, someone will complain. It'll be something like his arm is too erratic. He doesnt throw enough strikes to the plate from 375' away.

Once people get down on someone they'll find some reason to disparage him. Remember when Mike Napoli was breezing along with an OPS > .800 and some posters wanted to run him out of town on a rail because he struck out too much?

Yup.

spring training doesn't count. haven't you heard? LOL

I may be mistaken, but I'm not sure that anyone ever said that spring training doesn't count.

The point of what's been said is that it would not be wise to make rash decisions based on spring training results.

Well said, and I think that is why JBJ was often talked about in trade rumors this off season. He is a top notch defender but has been a streaky hitter and spring training is not giving people a warm feeling that he will have a breakout year. His time to perform is now, so if he doesn't, patience will run very thin.

I will go on record as saying that I am 100% on the JBJ bandwagon. I do not care if he is a light or streaky hitter. I want him manning center field for my team.

Not being a homer here ...feel comfortable saying this .JBJ is the greatest defender in CF i have ever witnessed in my 48 years on this blue and green rock hurling through space .I get absolutely pumped from the plays he makes look easy out there and I'm on a couch or lazy boy ....his team must loooooove him out there.

I would probably agree that word for word no one has said that spring training does not count. Many people here have said that spring training statistics do not count. In my world, that basically is the same thing. Now my comment once again was meant to be humorous but it is pretty much what people have said - and yes as you probably might have imagined I don't agree with that sentiment. In my little world, spring raining still counts a great deal actually.

It's a puny sample size, but his total OF one is not that small.

If you are arguing beni might be close to as good as JBJ on defense in CF after 3 months, I think it's you that has to provide some evidence.

I seriously doubt he can.

Benni will never be the defensive OFer that JBJ is. My point is that if JBJ cannot hit the ball then Benni's offense will more than make up for what he lacks in defensive ability in comparison to JBJ.

There are those who also think that poor performance early in the season is not as important as poor performance late in the season. I would argue that a game won or lost either early or late have the same value, so getting off to a good start is important. Does it correlate to having a good spring training? I don't know the answer to that, but I would think starting the season following a good hitting/fielding spring should give a guy more confidence.

Again, we're not replacing JBJ's bat with beni's, assuming we trade JBJ. We already have Beni's bat FT in the line-up.

The comp is.... (assuming we tradde JBJ for a SP'er or JBJ & Wright or Johnson for a SP'er)

Offense:

More PAs from HRam/Moreland/Nunez or maybe Travis/Swihart vs JBJ's bat

Beni's D in CF vs JBJ

JMart's D in LF vs Beni's

The SP'er we get vs Johnson/Wright.Velazquez

I can see a case where the trade would be worth it. As much as I am a huge JBJ fan, I'm not against trading anyone, if it makes us overall, but with out IF defense already pretty bad off, I'm not sure weakening 2 OF positions is the direction we should go.

If we can assume the offense would be better with Nunez/Moreland/HRam over JBJ and that differential is close to the same value as the loss on defense, then whatever pitcher we might get could certainly tip the balance of value from a JBJ trade to thegood.

I suggested Salazar at one time. If Salazar got hurt (again), what then?

Beni "raking" has nothing to do with trading JBJ.

The worse JBJ hits, the harder it'll be to trade him for anything of value. The better he hits, the harder it'll be to see him go.

I'm not so sure I agree. If he starts out hot, most GMs will just think it's another hot streak about to end. If he starts out slow, they'll think this is what JBJ has been all along.

Sorry I'll take Kirby Puckett over JBJ in CF.

Amazing at 28 same age JBJ will be in April.

Not only GG, but 234 hits, 24 HRS, 121 RBI's, and .356 avg.

Retire in 95

Good ball player, but an absolute s***** human being. f*** Kirby Puckett. He didn't die soon enough.

When Tonya finally called the Edina police on Dec. 21, 2001, to report that Kirby had, over the phone, threatened to kill her, she also mentioned earlier abuses. Her husband was, she said through her tears, a violent man. Once, she said, he tried to strangle her with an electrical cord. Once he locked her in the basement. Another time, when he was furious and she locked herself in a room, he used a power saw to cut through the door. Once he even put a gun, cocked, to Tonya's head as she quaked, clasping little Catherine in her arms.

I think that the better JBJ hits lessons the chances of him being moved significantly. He hits - Boston keeps him - I'd be happy.

I didn't know this about Kirby Puckett.
