I don’t agree that you’d hate it. Schwarber has a ridiculously unlucky 2017. Look at the numbers. In his 2015 campaign, he had a BABIP of .293 and put up a solid .246/.355/.487 as a rookie with 16HR in 273AB. Last year, he hit 30 homers and his walk rate was still good, but his BABIP dropped to .244. His K rate was pretty similar as well. He’s a candidate to hit .240-.260 and have a mid .800s OPS. He’s also only 24 and he’s been out of position.

Also, Ryan Howard used to be really good for a while there

Schwarber's batting average isn't due to bad luck. It's due to the shift...

I think JBJ is certainly tradeable, but the circumstances would have to be right...

I don't get the Cubs reference in that tweet...we've been linked to Schwarber, and while I wouldn't necessarily mind buying low on him, I wouldn't think he'd be nearly enough for Bradley, nor could he replace him in the outfield.

We'll see...

To be precise, Steamer projects Kyle Schwarber with 1.6 WAR while FanGraphs Depth Charts project Schwarber with 2.0 WAR.

Steamer and FanGraphs Depth Charts project Eduardo Rodriguez with 0.7 WAR in 11 starts.

I suspect the Cubs would pass. Easily.

No, a starter is much more difficult to fill. A young lefty that had a 9.8K/9 last season doesn't grow on trees like a low batting average and middle of the pack power that seems to be a dime dozen these days.

Slash, I think you'll like this one better:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- You want crazy, don't you? Manny Machado to the Cardinals? Yeah, that would do it. How about Evan Longoria to the Giants? See, you're starting to get into the spirit of the thing. If we can't throw a little caution to the wind, what's the point

3. The Cubs pay for a Price

David Price's first two years in Boston have been a bit uneven, as he's posted a good but not great 3.84 ERA and sparred with the media. On the other hand, he has a long, productive relationship with Cubs manager Joe Maddon and pitching coach Jim Hickey. The Red Sox need a power hitter. The Cubs happen to have one in Kyle Schwarber who doesn't really have a position. The Cubs also happen to be shopping for a top-of-the rotation starter. Bingo. And this would have the added drama of Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein swinging a blockbuster with his old team.

I'm losing faith in your ability to evaluate baseball players.

Kyle Schwarber isn't very good, despite whatr Cubs' fans think.

He's a three true outcome guy who will, until he actually tries to make an adjustment, spend his career hitting into the shift. His ceiling is Adam Dunn. Ceiling.

Also, he does not have 10 years of control left...

Why is everyone hating on my boy Adam Dunn all of a sudden?!?!?! EFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Not sure I would deal E-Rod for Schwarber, I'm learning towards no. I would rather have E-Rod and someone like Duda or Morrison than just Schwarber, but that's just my opinion.. and Ideally I don't want Duda or Morrison.

I'm not sure ERod will ever be the pitcher we need him to be. He's a 3-4 with a substantial injury risk. I'd be happy with that deal.

I like Dunn, but that's the upper limit of Sc hwarber, and he probably never reaches it.

More likely he is a LHH Chris Carter. I wouldn't give up anything of value for him.

The only reason this trade favors Schwarber is ERod's pending surgery and short season. Long term, I greatly prefer ERod over Schwarber...

Not surprised. I'm expecting something along the lines of:

Giants get Bradley

White Sox get two from Christian Arroyo/Tyler Beede/???

Red Sox get Jose Abreu

I like Abreu slightly more than Santana, but losing JBJ does not make up that difference.

I'd always rather sign a FA than trade from the MLB roster. I guess they think they can't re-sign JBJ?

He's got 3 years of arb salaries left. There's no need to trade him now, unless we are looking to sign JD Martinez, and JD does not want to DH.

They also must like Beni & Betts better than JBJ, which is totally understandable.

And just want a big bopper in LF.

JBJ in a three-way for Abreu, then signing Martinez to play left field? Just a stab in the dark here. That lineup would be off the chain, but I love our outfield as currently constituted and would rather just have Martinez DH and sign a free agent first baseman. Edited by Jack Flap

I'd suggested earlier back a few months ago that the Sox could trade JBJ for prospects and then go after Stanton.

I suppose they could trade JBJ still to replenish the farm and then slide Benintendi or Betts over the CF and stick J.D. Martinez in a corner outfield spot. Preferably LF at Fenway.

With Health, I consider a strong bounce back with this lineups power as is. Adding a big bat could really help the offense make a big turn around next year.

The questoin is, do we go all out and trade for a 1B/DH type? or do we try to save our pennies and go after a big bat next year?

I've often contemplating signing Machado if he wanted to move back to SS and trade Bogaerts off next year. There is no way we can sign all of Sale/Betts/Bogaerts after next year and I'm sure some teams would be willing to pay high for 1 year of service if they don't have the money to get involved in next years monster sweepstakes.

Agreed. I think it would be better to sign Santana (won't need a long term deal) for 1b and then Martinez for LF. You then trade Bradley to upgrade the rotation, target a younger SP. Wasting an asset like Bradley to acquire Abreu when there are so many other 1b options on the free agent market would be a bad idea, IMO.

I don't think the Sox are in a position to save this year and go big next year.

The cliff may not be real but the window for this core group is.

This is a great idea. Strengthen the farm system, thus putting the Red Sox in a better position to acquire a Verlander type during the regular season.

I guess it depends on your definition of "save" is. They can sign a big bat and still stay under the harder cap.

Yup, It's maybe kinda a side ways move at the MLB level because you take a hit defensively in the outfield but you make up for it and probably at least marginally get better through improved offense. But overall the system is better, and that could come into play as you have suggested.

That looks like a possibility, but if the plan is to play JD in LF, I'd trade JBJ for a pitcher and sign Santana or maybe Morrison or Duda to play 1B or DH.

Plus Abreu will make $17M+ this year and more in 2019.
