Funniest Post of the day for me I read. Somebody wrote Stanton will hit more HRS this year in Fenway then Bogaerts. Then I looked it up, Bogaerts only had 4 this year in Fenway.

It may not be his fault, but his plan was to win in the next couple years and after that, hope and pray?

DD will definitely have to be creative now. Or he can do what he usually does and sign a few long term megadeals that may or may not help the immediate future but will cripple the team long term.

Welcome to Boston, JD and Carlos...

I have no doubt that Dombrowski is going to do something big. I just hope he doesn't overreact in an attempt to one up the Yankees.

IMO, the Sox are already a very good team without having done anything. The Yankees would have to be considered the favorites now that they have Stanton, but that doesn't mean that the Sox can't beat them with a couple of well thought out moves.

I don't like Stanton going to the Yankees, but I'm not about to jump off the ledge. The Sox will be in the hunt.

It was nothing short of a steal. Even without Castro and the money saved, it would have been a steal.

Stanton at $25M on the luxury tax budget is not a salary dump. Only low spending teams view him that way.

I'm guessing there's a good chance that Stanton opts out, in which case the Yankees don't get the $30 mil from the Marlins and the price in prospects hurts a little more. If Stanton doesn't opt out, then the Yankees are taking on a big risk with that 10 year deal, regardless of the AAV.

The Yankees got a good player, but I'm not ready to call it a steal. I think there's a reason why the Dodgers were not that enthused in their pursuit.

Congrats to the Yankees. They got the premier power bat in all of baseball for Castro and a bunch of tier 2 minor leaguers.

For the record, I was never on suicide watch when it came to trading for Stanton. Same for signing Martinez, as I am scared of the frequent trips to the dl.

And I am not really interested in either royals infielder.

I am all for signing more pitching. A solid starter and two solid lefty relievers.

For first base I prefer Matt Adams, but would settle for a return of Moreland.

I am with you on most of this post.

I totally agree. Remember, not all that glitters is gold. The Yankees have taken on risk as well as GS possible capabilities.

I think that Stanton will be a very good player for the Yankees for the 1st half of the contract.

I would much rather he went to the Giants, but I am glad that the Sox did not take on that contract.

This "trade" unfortunately reminds me of the Lakers ripoff of Pau Gasol in his prime.

It then fueled another 2 championships for the Kobe-led Lakers.

Judge and Stanton together for the next 5 years? Lord help us!

Cheer up vj. It's all good.

The guys at Barstool got it right - This would be akin to David Ortiz buying the Angels then trading us Mike Trout for Devon Marero. Lets go Papi - get it done.

Oh well - maybe MLB will de-juice the baseballs for next year.

De-juice the baseballs and raise the pitcher's mound!

Not the end of the world. Just one more case of the Yankees being the Yankees. That is what makes it so challenging to beat them. And so gratifying when you do.

Agreed.

This Yankees signing doesn't bother me nearly as much as when they signed Damon. LOL

crap happens so they say- Got to keep your head up and push on through. Never know what the future might hold. I don't think the sox are likely to go in to quit mode.

That's what I'm talking about.

LOL He probably will!

Guzman is still at least 2 years away, but he is a legit prospect. Only guy in the minors with an 80 rating fastball

I read that Guzman (your #7 prospect?) would be akin to our #1 prospect.

If the Yankees are smart, they will turn around and try to find a sucker for C.Frazier. He was terrible at the major league level last year for the Yankees (84 OPS+) and has never produced big numbers in the minor leagues. The time to trade him is now before he loses more value.

DD needs to get us a bopper. We where complaining last year of not having a bopper in the lineup.

I just hope he doesn't trade our two best prospects (Groome & Chavis) for J.Abreu. I actually think Dombrowski is dumb enough to do that, but maybe John Henry would block it.

There are so many 1b types on the free agent market, it doesn't make sense to trade prospects for Abreu. I want them to sign C.Santana.

Guzman would be your #1. He’s got insane stuff, he just finally harnessed it. He’s a definite loss for the system

He has one pitch, Troll. His secondary stuff needs work. At this point, he profiles more as a reliever than starter. He wouldn't be the Red Sox #1. Why don't you go to a Yankees forum and get the hell out of here, Troll.

I'm ok with this now that I have processed it. I do expect moves to be made to strengthen the team that we currently have. I also absolutely believe that the Yankees signing of stanton will motivate and bring out the best of what we have which really isn't all that bad. Not being considered the favorite now by any stretch has got to get these guys going. We are going to really find out what we have in some of them real soon. It's ok with me that stanton had no interest in coming to Boston. Unless you have lived in New England, you don't get it. I think that this is likely to bring out some fight in some people that we need to see it from. I can't believe that JH and DD won't be up to accept this challenge either.

Guzman is a gamble. And in prospect deals the past couple years, most GMs have been averse to gambles. MLB-ready is a big deal, even for the high profile prospects.

There is a REALLY GOOD chance Guzman never makes MLB. Pitchers are toohard to predict.

To take a package this light and pay $50mill? I bet no othet team could have gotten Stanton so cheaply...

I apologize for this comment. I'm sure that you are a great person. Just a concerned, aggravated, motivated Red Sox fan here.

Yep, exactly.

BTW, a great article here.

https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2017/12/9/16756778/giancarlo-stanton-trade-miami-marlins-new-york-yankees-bruce-sherman

Even in a franchise that’s suffered a post–World Series fire sale under Wayne Huizenga, then 15 years of slimy hucksterism from former owner Jeffrey Loria, the Marlins are exploring new depths of bad faith, and drilling into substances so repulsive our baseball vocabulary is not up to the task of describing them.

Any owner who has the best power hitter of his generation locked up long term at age 28, and is so afraid of him getting old that they sell him to the Yankees for nothing, ought to get out of show business altogether. Sure, Stanton’s owed up to $295 million over the next decade, but perhaps the Marlins could’ve found part of that sum in the half-billion dollars that local government gave them to build a stadium five years ago?

Sherman invited Jeter to join the rentier class—or at least feel like he was part of that exclusive club—in exchange for a 4 percent buy-in and one particular service: Jeter, as the team’s CEO, would look like he was in charge. Now he’s a well-paid human shield, like Roger Goodell for the NFL, soaking up public scorn while the men who wield real power soak in profit. The relationship between Jeter and Sherman is like the relationship between an occupying army and the local puppet ruler, or a mafia boss and his stooge. That’s not to excuse Jeter for accepting this ignoble role, or to portray him as having a clue what he’s doing, but rather to reinforce whose name ought to be slapped across protest signs and headlines as the Marlins are parted out for pennies on the dollar, leaving one of baseball’s most beloved figures as a punch line, and a city’s baseball tradition withered and desiccated like a prune in the sun.

LOL, you know literally NOTHING about prospects yet you continue to pound that drum. You're absolutely hilarious. Time to renovate the bridge you are living under, you're gonna be there awhile.

Guzman has an average breaking ball and average change at this point, but he has really solid command and showed the ability to locate a near 100mph heater as well as his secondary pitches. If he can get a bit more depth on his breaking ball, he will be entirely complete.

I hope no one's blaming Dealin' Dave for being 0-2 so far, because neither player wanted to play for Boston. That said, he IS 0-2....

No one on this board is as anti dave as me, and I can not call him out for anything on either ohtani or Stanton,
