Oh, I didn't think you were specifically. And I don't disagree with you...I guess I'm just accustomed to taking statements from any GM with a grain of salt regardless.

"with our season just ending our medical staff is still in the process of evaluating all of our players. As we know, the Major League Baseball season is a long 162 game 6 month grind and we were also fortunate enough to participate in postseason games. With this amount of activity we certainly expect that there may be some instances where a player may need extra rest or possibly a minor surgery to repair any issues. As soon as we know of any specific surgeries that are scheduled we will be sure to pass along this information as appropriate"

"no surgeries are scheduled"

I think we all take what GMs say with a grain of salt, but the surgery comment does not fit into that mold.

It's really not a big deal- just a head-scratcher.

Personally, I think he just misspoke. No biggie.

What's the actual quote tho? I've never seen it.

"there are no plans for anyone on the roster to have surgery"

That can't be the actual quote tho.

No results found for "there are no plans for anyone on the roster to have surgery".

Results for there are no plans for anyone on the roster to have surgery (without quotes):

We're in agreement there. It was definitely odd, I just don't see it as a big deal.

This is what he said on Oct 11th:

"Then we'll have to decide what's going to take place at that point,” Dombrowski said. “We want to make sure that most importantly his knee is as good as it can be going forward. I don't know what that's going to [entail] at this point until he sees the doctors and gets those recommendations."

Other medical situations seemingly could result in surgery, but there was no announcement Wednesday.

“Because there are some other people being checked out by doctors and we’ll wait to here what the recommendations are,” Dombrowski said. “There may be some people, but the season just ended so we all need to follow up with doctors.”

It was only about a week ago that Boston Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told reporters that there were no plans for anyone on the roster to have surgery this offseason. Apparently, a lot has changed since then.

Eduardo Rodriguez becomes the latest Red Sox player to go under the knife. He joins reliever Robby Scott, who had elbow surgery last week, and Hanley Ramirez, who revealed through his Twitter account on Tuesday that he’s having shoulder surgery.

I promise I did NOT mean to restart that discussion, lol.

There's a lot of speculation now about the Yankees getting into the Stanton talks, the mere idea of which is going to make me anxious until we get some further news. I never really expected him to come to Boston, but seeing him end up in pinstripes would make this offseason turn to s*** in a hurry (and put more pressure, rightly or wrongly, on the Red Sox to make a "big move").

That's not a direct quote tho? The actual quote has never been presented from what I've seen.

And saying "no plans" is super duper innocuous if that's what he said.

Source says Red Sox talks involving Jose Abreu significantly overstated. Very little traction at any time. Seems Abreu is staying put in Chicago.

Just remember, if Jeter trades Stanton to the NYY, thunder is no longer allowed to make gamethreads due to his Jeter fanhood.

I have been seeing it on Twitter that the Yankees are in on Stanton.

If STL misses out on Stanton, my guess is, Abreu goes there.

I never believed the Yanks wouldn't seriously kick Stanton's tires.

The key is whether the reverse is true. That has been the funny part of the entire Stanton saga. Stanton has basically total control of the process - yet Classy Derek Jeter has acted like he doesn't.

Report I saw was that he would consider a trade to the Yankees, Astros, Cubs or Dodgers, who just happened to be the final four in 2017.

I read that he is only considering the Dodgers and the Yankees. I am not sure that I would mind him signing with the Yankees as long as they are responsible for his whole contract or close to it. It could easily hobble their ability to sign other players for years to come.

Papi should be calling this guy every damn day.

Despite recent reports connecting the Red Sox to Jose Abreu, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com tweets that talks between Boston and Chicago are “significantly overstated,” adding that there’s never been much traction between the two sides in that regard. That meshes with what The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal wrote yesterday (subscription required and recommended) when reporting that it’s unlikely the White Sox move Abreu to Boston or to any other club, “barring an unexpected change.”

Translation: The price for Abreu has gone up.

Let's just hope the Marlins don't turn into the late 50s Kansas City Athletics, who basically served as a major league farm team for the Yankees

So this loser would accept a trade to the Yankees but not the sox? What's his beef with playing in boston? I can't stand this self absorbed prick!
