f*** Dan Shaughnessy, Bob Ryan, Jerry Remy, and Eck. David Price just shoved one deep in their asses.

You mean by taking half the season off as his team came within a couple of games of missing the post-season and then by pitching 7 good innings in the playoffs, he didn't have that childish confrontation with Eck?

May be a day of rest today, or a long and frustrating wait for the remnants of Hurricane Nate to go through.

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who follows baseball knows deep inside that players can 'turn it up', they know that 'hitting is contagious' and that there's such a thing as momentum.

Then they read 'studies' done by other people and suddenly they're conflicted. Who do they believe? Do they believe the number crunchers who 'prove' that everything they have learned was wrong or do their believe their own lyin' eyes?

It's easy to argue against these things though. If a player can turn it up, why don't they do it all the time instead of only on selected occasions? Momentum - didn't Houston have all the momentum in the world after the first inning yesterday? We seem to have it now, but how confident are we that momentum will help Rick Porcello mow down the Houston hitters?

There's a lot of stuff in baseball that's just hard to explain. In the old days guys used to just shrug and say 'Hey, things just went my way today' or 'hey, I just didn't have it today'.

My position was and continues to be that neither viewpoint is completely right nor completely wrong.

I believe in the statistics to a point but I also believe that one cannot rule out "the human element", and when you acknowledge the human element what are you acknowledging is the emotional ability to 'turn it up'.

I've played on several teams that were pretty ordinary until something happened to ignite the team. When that happened we became pretty darn good and when it didn't happen we lost. Sometimes all a team needs is that spark. That spark can be a fielder making a great play, a couple of "random" hits or, in the case of what David Ortiz did, a fired-up dugout speech. The results of those things is the 'human element" we speak of.

I fail to see how anyone could have watched yesterday's game and can believe that the six run 7th inning was all the result of randomness.

That's right. He saved the team's season yesterday. Probanly the only pitcher who has showed up this postseason.

I love stats but have to say the human element can be huge in baseball. Our rotation has collapsed which was not totally unexpected given the final four game series against the Astros at Fenway, but 3 of 3 starters--Sale, Pom, Fister--being just useless? Then Price, who had already looked good in September, came through yesterday again only better, going 4 huge, gigantic innings and maintaining that fragile 4-3 lead.

Hitting the same way. HanRam has come into his own and looks like the Manny Ramirez only with a lot more enthusiasm. JBJ, who struggled in August and September, is suddenly looking great in October. Bogaerts on the other hand looks lost and Beni not much better. Hell, the bottom four in the order have driven in all 14 runs in these 3 ALDS games, but Moreland leads the team in runs scored.

For the Astros Altuve right now has an OPS over 2.000--but in just 3 games. He has made the intentional pass seem like the wisest move in almost any circumstance but certainly with anyone on base.

But the memory is a curious thing. I too remember distinctly having our team get fired up, and consequently getting absolutely crushed. And I remember coasting through games we all thought in despair we had no chance of winning, only to find ourselves miraculously ahead. And getting fired up for a tennis match only to lose 6-0. But in general, when we had more talent than our opponents, we won. When we didn't, we lost. And when we came through in a big moment, we called that 'clutch', and when we failed, we called that 'choking'. And that each of these events seemed at the time and sometimes for decades to be Valuable Life Lessons, which of course had absolutely no bearing on how life turned out in the end.

I saw no posts from anyone advocating taking Price out.

I made the suggestion (order? LOL) for Farrell to have someone up in the bullpen during that 4th inning in case it was needed. Remember, we were nursing a one run lead at that time.

Maybe there was a misunderstanding of what my intent was.

No, you and a700hitter said the same thing and i clearly exaggerated what you said during the game in my enthusiasm for how Price's stint turned out. All you both said was to warm someone up, and I was defending the notion that Farrell knew what he was doing.

Rodriguez has to assume the Price role in case Porcello's serving up meatballs early in the game.

Probably, except that ERod right now seems unable to command his pitches--the direct opposite of Price.

Where all the David Price haters at now?

I was at the game. Loving every bit of astro's dad. He pitched awesome. S5 is right though. Everyone was commenting that someone needed to be up in the pen as Price was getting up in pitch count. JF is a dope. We literally win in spite of him. I hope Price gets the chance to continue to tamper my hate this postseason. He will start if we make the alcs...

If we win this series, he should change his name to Astro's Dad. For two reasons.
