Holt is so f***ing bad. I'm sure I'll get a nice message about how valuable he is though, he can play 212 different positions at a s***** level.. Wooo

My takeaway from this game: Barnes should not be put in a high leverage situation again until he proves that he can get people out.

His bravery at 1B means we can keep Heath Hembree on the roster.

It's okay guys. Hopefully Holt will be in the lineup tomorrow and will have a chance to get his OPS over .500!
I think that he hits Carrasco very well.

We had a shot to win the game, even though we only had 5 hits but we did take some walks. From the 8th on, we made some fundamental errors which finally cost us the game.

Barnes just didn't have control and he got pulled. I don't count that as an error, just lack of execution. Beni's throw from the outfield when Lindor scored was definiitely an error, which allowed both runners to move up to 2nd and 3rd. It took some excellent pitching to avoid another run from coming in that inning. The next error was when Vaz hit the ball off the fence and sort of jogged to 1st and didn't turn it on until he got to first. Maybe he thought it was going out? By then, no chance to get to second which he had a good chance of doing if he had run hard right away. The third error was Holt, who fielded the bunt and double clutched, finally making a tough throw to Devers allowing the winning run. Two were lack of fundamentals and the other just a poor play. Tough one to lose as had wwe been able to get to Kimbrel we had a good chance of winning.

Exactly. DD has to talk with Farrell and question him how is he addressing the poor fundamentals. It's a big issue this year.

More and more mental blunders.

It seems to get worse- not better.

No accountability.

Holts a better heads up player than that....... that move surprises me.

The throw itself wasn't the problem; after the double-clutch, he had no chance. (Maybe you coaches can explain: it looked to me that Devers was set up for a force play-- is the idea to keep your foot on the bag so that you know where to make the tag? I don't think he had a chance of making any kind of tag in that position.)

Here's the play pause it when Holt got the ball, he had him by my count 10 steps. Holt made a real nice play till the double-clutch, then it was over, had to go to 1st then. Don't see much of a problem with Devers, he's straddling the bag, except he's kind of deep on the bag, maybe more in front of it.

I see a lot of mistakes on bunts nowadays throughout baseball. Play that should be used more, since teams don't practice it enough in Spring Training anymore.

I'll put money, that in the Play-offs, a bunt will be screwed up, and lead to something big in at LEAST 1 game.

Edit: 8 steps and a slide, but he's definitely only halfway between 2nd and 3rd. If handled cleanly he would have had him.

the save is in the 8th inning not the 9th. When will the "book" say go to your closer here?

The Book says to go to your closer.

I turned the game off when I saw Barnes come in to relieve, and sure enough he relieved all over himself.

His home/road splits this year are incredible. He just can't pitch on the road this season for some reason.

Well Kelly had already pitched, I'm assuming Reed is unavailable. There really wasn't much of a choice besides Kimbrel. Hembree is equally as bad.

Farrell is still playing it a little conservatively with the pen. He probably could have used Reed, but what effect might that have at the end of September/October? It's not quite do or die time yet. Being a little conservative right now is probably the right call.

It might just be my imagination, but it seems like we fare better in games when we're trailing by 1 or 2 runs going into the 8th inning than we do in games that we're leading by 1 or 2 runs. I hate losing games late.

That said, Cleveland is a very good team. We only lost by 1 run. Outside of the final outcome, good stuff.
