I was hoping a bat like Jay Bruce was also coming. But reportedly Dombrowski isn't looking to add a bat after Nunez and Devers....

... for Jamie Callahan and two others.

No word yet if Reed was injured during the trade...

He was injured before the trade, but our team doctors -- Doctor Quackenbush cleared him after a thourough physical which was comprised of Reed closing his eyes and touching his nose with the forefinger of his left and right hands. And then to leave no stone unturned, Dr. Quackenbush cupped Reed's testicles and asked him to turn his head and cough. He has been cleared to play and he will get his official working papers for the state of Massachusetts.

Didn't like losing Nogosek. Throws high 90's, and has a good slider. Numbers don't tell you his ceiling. Edited by OH FOY!

We needed a set up guy badly. This is excellent. Twitters is full of complaining twerps.

They strike me as the types who would complain about any trade that didn't involve getting Gray or Darvish for that same package of players...

They are the types that would have complain about getting anyone, because they can't bear to part with any prospects-- 80% of whom will never play an inning in the majors and maybe 5% will someday perform above replacement level.

Wait till we introduce him to our shoulder strengthening program.

@redsoxstats

Reed hasn't been one to wet himself on the mound.

Shutdowns per meltdown:

5.5 Kimbrel

4.8 Reed

2.8 Kelly

2.0 Workman

1.8 Barnes

1.4 Hembree

Nogosek hit high 90's and has a very good slider, don't go by his numbers, right now. Has a high ceiling.
My nephew is 15 and can hit 90 (sits at 84-5). There is a whole crop of these kids in Cary, NC this week ready to take Nogosek's spot in a few years. There is no need for handwringing over any of these guy. None of them are once in a decade or generation talents. At this point, their best value is as trade chips.

Might have won yesterday's game with him instead of Barnes, no?

Might have won yesterday's game if Bogaerts was a competent SS too. He has been less than stellar defensively this year (dWAR at -.5) and on the basepaths, he has been a disaster. If he didn't make the error yesterday who knows....maybe Barnes doesn't melt down.

I am glad that you could relate to the humor. I guess that the notion of applying for working papers is lost on millennials. LOL!

Nogosek, Bautista & Callahan

Some talent there, but not as much as I expected it would take to get Reed.

I like the deal.

Any news on a big bat, or are we all done?

And a manicure.

If the Sox are clearly out of the hunt at some point this season I expect that DD will hop a plane to the far east to tour sweat shops that specialize in producing plaid double knit polyester sport coats.

I'd kick the tires pretty hard on Sonny Gray.

Seems like prices are lower than I expected for some of these recent trades, although Gray is not a rental.

Keeping the Yanks from getting him might be an added plus.

Probably the biggest reason for acquiring him would be to keep him from the Yankees. Also, Price and ERod's health cannot be trusted down the stretch.
