This is a lot like one of those spring training games when the only point is to get some pitches and at bats in and winning and losing are unimportant.

This is the first loss in about a month in which the Sox scored 4 or more runs--in this case, 6 runs.

The Sox have lost a game in which they scored 6 or more runs just twice this year. The other time was April 18.

In other words, Farrell had to really go out of his way to ensure the Sox lost this one. He not only started Fister, but kept him in the game long enough to give up 6 runs. Then, when the game got close, 7-6, he was careful not to use any good relievers--none of whom were used last night. Oh, and he ended up sending his spare catcher to play 3b. How smart was that?

I was going to warn you all about a loss today. Yesterday, we had double at the game mojo on our side with YOTN and me at the game. My Fenway record this year is 3-0 and over the last 2 years I think that I am at 8-2. YOTN has a phenomenal Fenway record. Honestly, his Lifetime Fenway record is so good that he should start a GoFund Me page to send him to the games. Yesterday, the Blue Jays had no shot even though we ran the bases like idiots and Pedroia made an error. Today, they were doomed without the mojo.

Very very aggravating. If Fister had pitched a little better in his previous games this might have made some sense. But he was horrible in his last 2 games and he was predictably horrible today. It goes down as a game we should have won easily turned into a gift to the Jays.

Very dissapointing split. This team has a big west coast trip now.

Not to worry. All part of Farrell's plan. Give up the sure win today to guarantee a winning road trip thanks to a very well rested rotation.

I don’t get how many extra days of rest his staff needs. He already used a fill in pitcher in this series.

I am not getting a warm fuzzy about this team getting into the playoffs. Too many offensive holes and a manager who lacks any common sense and feel for the game.

Well just like a little league manager everyone needs to play or someone will get mad.

Anybody remember Ric Hill

Now they play Holt and Marrero daily. and shi[ Lin th the sticks.

Is this Farrell or DD. Or both?

A win is a win, probably an 80% chance if Sale pitches today we win. On the road trip he may be in a dog fight and lose. A f.. 2 game swing. All in Farrells big plans..

Well, that's most likely game. I don't see this offense getting two more runs in 9th off Osuna. 6 runs should be more than enough for a win, but not with Doug Fister on the mound..

I was just thinking the same. It figures that when the offense finally scores some runs, the pitching gives up 8.

But they did not have to give up eight. It was very preventable.

The Red Sox have won 13 of 19 starts (68.4 percent) by Chris Sale this year, including both starts against the Blue Jays, each at Toronto.

The Minnesota Twins are not catching the Red Sox.

Now that the Red Sox are coming west to play the Angels, perhaps they'll give Fister back while they're in Anaheim. If the Angels didn't want him, there must have been good reason.

One observation about Leon being thrown out at home plate when Holt's pop up was dropped: Why was Leon tagging up? If the ball had been caught, there was no way he was going to score. IMO, he should have taken a few steps towards home plate. He would have had time to get back to 3rd if the ball was caught, and he might have been able to score after the ball was dropped.

Terrible coaching is why Sandy again got sent to his death at home plates

Now that I've had the chance to see the DVR, Fister was, to put it charitably, indeed less than stellar. But the game turned when Holt lost the ball in the sun. It cost the Sox 4 runs, Fister a bunch of extra pitches and may well have cost them the game. The pen plays out differently if the Sox are ahead instead of behind.

Losing a ball in the Sun is a completely random event.

No way to plan for or react to it.

Oh well.

I am neither a detractor nor a defender of Farrell.

To me, using Fister seems inexplicable given that the ace was fully rested. While I do like the idea of giving pitchers a breather now and then so they MAY be better able to throw well late in the season, I am scratching my squash as to why it had to be today.

I can only assume Farrell knows something that we do not know. As in maybe that a starter is sore or is s***ing his brains out with a 24 hour bug or something like that.

I hope so anyway. Otherwise our manager just gave a game away.

Time to gain some ground with the next three series....

The Red Sox play their next six games in the Pacific Time Zone where the Sox are 1-3 this year after going 9-8 last year and 4-7 in 2015.

21 and 2, baby! I was thinking about it earlier today, too, and I think almost half of those wins have been against Toronto. For some reason they always end up being the team playing when I get tickets.

It is a great record even if the opponent was the Washington Generals.
