Anyone else think this is odd? Manny was a very polarizing player... he was a monster on the field for most of his time here, but he was also a huge pain in the ass in the clubhouse according to some, and quit on the team more than once before finally forcing a trade.

Then he got banned for steroids (TWICE) and retired from MLB in disgrace.

I know he didn't get arrested for battering his wife or something, but it seems like an odd promotion for the Sox marketing department. I'm not personally offended or anything, just offering an observation. Anyone see what I'm getting at?

Yea, but he had the sweetest swing I've ever seen.......

but seriously......... I find it both odd, and nice. I agree, he didn't leave in a feel good story moment. But I also find it nice that we can let things go and appreciate the good stuff.

But, if I was seated at the head of the table and someone suggested a Manny bobblehead night at Fenway.......... I'd would can that persons ass for stupidity......

but I also want a Manny bobblehead.....

I love Manny. I really don't have anything against him for all of the antics that he pulled.

That said, I find it rather strange to have a Manny bobblehead night right now.

Manny is the best hitter i have ever seen live and in person. we were lucky to have him. he worked harder than any other player during his time here.

youk was a punk bitch and deserved what he got from Manny.

FO effed with Manny every single trade deadline. FO got what they deserved from Manny.

Feel free to BR Manny's stats from July 2008 and let me know if he was "mailing it in" like the sheeple have been led to believe.

100% without a doubt we have a parade in October 2008 if that trade doesnt happen.

oh...and then there's this:

30-Jun-2008

Manny Ramirez has apologized for pushing the team's traveling secretary to the ground in the visitors clubhouse during a confrontation Saturday in Houston, according to a report in The Providence Journal.

Ramirez had requested 16 tickets from Jack McCormick for Saturday's game against the Astros, the report said.

After McCormick said that might not be possible,

Ramirez replied by yelling, "Just do your job," according to Monday's report.

Ramirez and McCormick later discussed the incident in a private meeting, during which the left fielder made amends.

"That's over," Ramirez said Sunday, according to the report. "We're fine now."

Boston manager Terry Francona said the team had resolved the matter and was "satisfied with how we handled this."

"Sometimes things happen," Francona said, according to The Journal. "And when they do, we choose to handle them internally."

Said McCormick: "It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and it's over with as far as I'm concerned."

Manny wasn't banned for steroids. He was busted for female fertility drugs and testosterone.

Fetility drugs? Oh no! Not another Sammy Sosa!

That's right! I don't see a Jack McCormick bobblehead night...so

Yes - but I think that this ownership has done any number of odd things to generate interest. i give them credit for trying. Ramirez was one of the great right handed hitters of all time. I was glad we had him but I can't say that I ever was much of a fan.

When you are one of the key contributors in two world series championships, and the MVP of the world series in one of them, I cant possibly hate you. Manny may have left on "bad" terms, but he will always be one of my favorites. He was one of the most dominant and gifted players I've ever seen play.

I would have welcomed Manny back in a heartbeat.

Damon, not so much.

I understand that Manny is hitting pretty well in Japan. Just the idea that Manny would put a clause in his contract that he gets all the free sushi that he wants is why you gotta love the guy. LOL

Oh - don't forget - And which knee was it again that is hurting Manny? He swung the bat very well particularly when he wanted to. that's it.

I get the dislike. I .......couldn't stand him the last years he was with the Sox and wanted him gone.

So, as generation Manny person, and not a generation Yaz person I looked up the stats between Manny and Yaz and was going to prove to you he was a hitter on at Yaz's level or better......... because to me I never have seen better than Manny. During my time I'd rather have Manny up than the more loved Ortiz.

And comparing stats between Yaz and Manny......... there is no comparison. Yaz was way better.

Although Manny was a beast during two playoff runs that lead to championships......... Yaz never did that.....

The bottom line on Manny: signing him was one of the key factors in transforming the team into championship contenders and it paid off in 2 titles.

When Manny Ramirez was at his best, I am not sure whether I have ever seen a better hitter. I am very sure that I never saw a better right handed hitter.

No disagreement from me there for sure.
