Pitchers' duel: Berrios, 7-1, 2.67 ERA, righty vs. Sale, 9-3, 2.85 ERA, lefty

Betts

Pedroia

Bogaerts

Moreland

Benintendi

Young (changed)

Bradley

Leon

Lin

First time in awhile Farrell has had 5 lefty bats against a righty starter--thanks to Leon over Vazque and Lin over a cast of thousands. What does Tzu-Wei sound like out loud?

We're still in June, but no time like the present to say we need this win.

What is the reason for Hanley's scratch?

He got hit on the left knee yesterday, got treatment for it today. He's day-to-day.

In one small piece of good news, Carson Smith is throwing again.

I got this from P. Abraham's Twitter account. It's a good source of info for stuff like this.

Thanks for both data points.

It does occur to me that our guys get injured regularly via HBP and other actions by opposing players. Pedey got spiked by Machado and more recently hit by that Astros pitcher with a pitch I thought was definitely intentional.

George Will did a baseball column on Sunday I think and commented on the shifts and how those seem to be driving hitters to get loft in their swings to hit over the shifts. But he made no mention of the easiest way to slow down an opposing hitter--just hit him with a pitch. These days you can do that without fear of penalty.

This team needs a damn winning streak. Win one then lose 1 won't cut it! Yankees will be on the road a lot coming up. Have to take advantage now!

just joining in... we're getting to Berrios early... that's nice to see, he's been tough this season.

SHame on Bogie for the GIDP, but all else was fine in the 1st. Sox have had 2 hard hit balls that were outs so far.

Ump ain't calling the corners for either pitcher.

You do realize that Berrios has a better record, a lower ERA and a lower WHIP than Sale, right? Offense didn't figure to be a big feature on either side tonight.

Not every mistake is a hit and not every hit is off a mistake.

I understand that but this has been a problem with this team recently. Hitting a good pitcher

Hitting any pitcher for the most part.

By definition, good pitchers are tough to hit. That's why they are ...

The problem isn't the good pitchers, it's they haven't been hitting average and back end types.
