Repeat - glad we have Pomeranz and we still need the big bat (but I wouldn't give up much at all for a rental)

and I get s*** for saying Farrell doesn't know when to take his starter out...

You deserve the s***. Season to date, the Yankees have outscored their opponents by 112 runs and the Sox theirs by 34, but we are just 1 game back in part because Farrell has been masterful with the pitching staff.

I don't like Pomeranz one darn bit, but last night he was terrific: 6.1 innings, 1 run, a solo dinger. Nothing wrong with wanting a big bat, but not at the price one would likely cost.

This is so far as I know the first Sox team in the John Henry era that has had strong pitching and relatively weak hitting. That would be terrible except we have the 3d best record in the AL and only 2 NL teams have better records.

moonslav insists the hitting will improve, and for now that's good enough for me even though I think Ortiz left a big hole in the lineup.

To me 3b and DH--Pablo and Hanley--are the shortfalls and Cherington paid a big price for both of them. Moreland is better than expected, Pedey is coming back, the outfield, even JBJ, are hitting well, and Bogie is in a slump but still a good hitter. Catchers not so great, but good enough.

Maybe not masterful, but I can't think of too many clearcut mistakes he's made this year either. That's good enough for me.

And I was just about to write the same thing.....

Nothing masterful about inserting any of our 6 foot 2 fireballers who get the job done.........

we have a good pen. And they should be saluted............

No one looks masterful when the only person you can go with is Ogando...

I whined at the outset tonight and a lot in the last game, but I really liked the first two innings of this game, especially given they played a night game in Philly last night and are at Houston--best in the AL--tonight. Excellent start by Pomeranz whom I have bashed endlessly, and both times hard hit balls with RISP, to say nothing of Pedroia stealing 2b to be eligible to be RISP.

Definitely rooting for our guys and plan to do no more whining.

LOL This really cracked me up.

Ahh, it's nice to see we're not the only team that f***s up on the basepaths. My man was out by an 18-wheeler

As I posted in another thread, the Yankees and Astros are right behind us in outs made on basepaths. But the Yankees and Astros are also the 2 highest scoring teams in the AL. You live by aggressive base running, but also die by aggressive base running.

I'd be more impressed if you had said it before the 7th inning.

And the score aside, I'll take that effort from any starting pitcher any day of the week.

Absolutely. Pom did a great job against a high powered offense.

Houston has lost 7 of their last 10.

See what happens to teams who lose their top starters?

We lost Price, Wright and ERod for longer than the Stos lost Keuchal and McCullers, and we are close to being in first place.

Is this because all three teams get more men on base?

I'm sure that's part of it. The more runners you have on base, the more LOBs you're likely to have, and the more outs you're likely to run into. With the Red Sox, it probably has to do with a lot of base runners but few homeruns.

Considering everything, the Sox are in very good shape.

Say hello to the ALE Houstony

I think that I heard that the Astros have a winning record against the ALE.

Before their misfortune, I assume.
