Pedey has always been a douche, but he is still a really good player.

That's about right and it's good enough for me.

MVP pretty much summed it up.

without Ortiz keeping him in check apparently Pedroia is a real DB. at least that is my perception this year.

Panda has had his role severely diminished and has not said one negative peep to the press/social media. nothing negative has even "leaked" from his agent or "unnammed sources". that impresses me.

So one is a Red Sox lifer and two-time WS champ who is pretty much constantly playing through one injury or another, but can be kind of a dick sometimes, whereas the other continues to provide negative value in year 3 of his contract but at least hasn't publicly complained about losing playing time for being a bad baseball player? Do I have that about right?

To each their own, I guess.

Cashing a huge check that one is not earning while keeping a low profile about one's utilization doesn't impress me at all.

I wouldn't use the word "really" anymore.

good player has nothing to do with this thread or the question the OP asked.

FJ is you are asking me who the better ballplayer is i will answer pedroia without hesitation.

i was answering the topic of the thread.

Nope. That's just made up nonsense like "grit."
No. I disagree. I am not talking about attitude or hustle. I am talking about his hot streaks. He usually gets red hot during the second half of the season and that drives the offense. And we need that this season.

Pedroia was spitting up blood after being hit in the back, but stayed in the game for 2 more innings. Grit is very real.

As is mojo.

Yep, and your point is? I have already conceded that these low IQ types know more about baseball than I know. My auto mechanic could lose a game of Jeopardy to a bowling ball, but I still take my car to him when it needs to be fixed.

Is your auto mechanic fungible?

The thread simply asked what players we "support" or "hate"...one might reasonably expect their performance and value to the team to play some role here. But again, to each their own.

And Pedroia's current performance isn't good enough to cover any of his nonsense anymore.

Yes. He is extremely fungible.

So do you believe all auto mechanics in general are equally competent at the job or that they are all equally incompetent at the job?

He's 17th in WAR for 2B. You can take the "really" out.

And we all know that WAR alone is the ultimate measure of a player's abilities and ends all debates.

one of my alltime favorite players is oil can boyd. so performance and value are definitely not the end all be all when it comes to slasher's players.

It's not the end all be all, but we need to stop saying Pedroia is a great player. He's not what he used to be.

For Old School: .296/2/24 with 2 SB and 3 CS.

His OPS is .743.

It is what you'd expect out of Jody Reed, not Dustin Pedroia.

Is the season over already? Bummer.

No, but don't complain about me "buzzarding" if I'm simply stating that he's not playing well (he's not) and there's reason for concern (there is).

I'd rather be a buzzard and be on the right side of history than be a fanboy.

Jody Reed was a lifetime .270/.349/.350/.700 hitter. He hit 27 HR's lifetime.

Pedroia has a .296/.368/.376/.743 line this season. He has a .301/.366/.442/.808 lifetime line so far. He has hit 135 HR's lifetime. He is not that far off his usual production, which Reed only reached in a handful of seasons. Except for getting hurt, Pedroia is as productive as always and has not faded precipitously as Jody Reed did.

Pedroia's lifetime stats HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW HE IS PLAYING RIGHT NOW AND HOW WE CAN PROJECT HIM GOING FORWARD AS HE AGES.

If no one else is concerned about Pedroia's lack of power this year, I don't know what to say. He's a singles hitter who plays great defense. The current version of Pedroia is easily replaceable.

Pedroia is a doubles hitter with occasional HR power. He is 4th on the team in doubles despite missing all the games that he has. He is not longer in his prime, but he is not declining steeply at all. 2016 was one of his best seasons. Injury is the only thing that has hampered his performance and is really the main concern with him.

And because of the way he plays, I think he's going to deal with even more injuries and missed time as he gets older. He's playing like he did in 2014 and I just think this may be a long term trend for him.

I don't hate the guy. I don't want to run him out on a rail. I just don't think he's anything more than an average 2B going forward.
