Pablo did hit a home run tonight and made a fielding play. To me he looks like he has gained back a little weight, which is also something to watch with him. I feel the same way about Moreland. He is no long term solution and maybe Travis will be.

Moreland has a 1.098 OPS over the last two weeks.

We should ride his horse until he shows he can't be ridden anymore.

Shaw will get his chance someday. With HRam looking as fragile as an egg, it might be sooner rather than later.

Pablo's going to get a good look. He didn't look any fatter to me, but it's hard to tell.

Marrero is not the answer for 3B, even as a place setter for Devers. We just need Pablo to just be halfway decent.

I'm not worried about this team, yet.

Hopefully some returning players from the DL will lift us to a prolonged winning period.

Shaw has been having his day just not with us. Pablo has to play -errors and all - we need his bat what there is of it. they need one more real hitter!

The expectation for this year's team was they would pitch better and hit worse than last year's team.

The hitting worse thing is right on target, but the pitching hasn't been better. Some big factors have been the injuries to Price and Thornburg. Especially Price, who has all of 5 IP under his belt...

Maybe Sandoval is like Sampson. Except that instead of hair he gets his strength from belly fat...

I know many think we need a big bat to replace Ortiz, but I still disagree with that. IMO, we just need the guys that we have to stay healthy and hit like they are capable of hitting. Beni is in a terrible slump, as we all know. Hanley as well.

Pedroia being on the DL is not helping.

The player that seems to have gotten a pass is Mookie. Over the past two weeks, his slash line is .175/.277/.333/.610. The slump actually goes back a little farther than 2 weeks.

Good point.

Through April and May last year, the team scored 308 runs. This year, they've scored 252 runs through April and May.

Through April and May last year, the pitching staff allowed 228 runs. This year, they've allowed 218 runs through April and May. That is slightly better, but it's not the improvement that I think we would expect with the addition of Sale.

That said, the drop off in runs scored is also more than I would have expected.

We need one more real hitter or at least one more guy who looks big enough to be a real good hitter.

I expected the offense to be worse. However, I still expected top 5 or 6 in runs.

I expected slightly better defense: it has been worse.

I expected way better pitching. The injuries to Wright, Price and Thornburg is part of the problem, but we should have expected some injuries.

If I was sending someone down it would be Rutledge upon the return of Pedey. If we lose him so be it.

I'd guess Marrero or Travis would go down- not the out-of-options Ruledge.

Based on how things are going at this point in time, and things can change quickly, I'd make the following moves when these players return (assuming they do return):

Pedey > Marrero (maybe Travis)

ERod > Workman (Johnson may be called up for a start and replacing Workman, then BJ will be replaced by ERod.)

C Smith> Boyer (maybe Abad)

Thornburg > Abad (maybe Scott)

B Holt> whoever was not sent down when Pedey returned (Marrero or Travis)

Hernandez and Wright are out all year, but what's the timetable on Robbie Ross?
