So do most MLB teams. There is always room for a "little" improvement.

Ok - It is what you do - it's a little like the spinny wheel on my computer.

"Outside of Beni and Hanley" means that there was indeed evidence, for one. For two, a quick look at the Fangraphs stats department shows the Sox a mere +5.2 baserunning runs even though they were one of the best base stealing teams in the league, meaning the rest of their baserunning performance was lackluster. The Sox were boneheaded on the bases this year, and both stats and eye test agree.

That's just one area presented through quick research. I'm sure I can muster more proof regarding the Sox' overall problems with fundamentals.

Also, your point about them "not being the most talented team left in the playoffs" is a horrific strawman. Not once did I compare them to other teams. I said they overcame several fundamental mistakes to win their division because of their talent level. That was the extent of the statement, one I can pretty convincingly present as correct.

The IQ of this board took a massive leap up today when you signed on.

Farrell should be s***ing bricks right now. His future is likely coming to an end with Boston. We put up a good fight in this series but Farrells time has past with Boston.

Farrell gets ejected in an elimination game and the managing at the end fails the team. Farrell doesn’t survive this, no way

BS. He pulled rabbits out of the hat to win game 3 and make game 4 close. He got ejected protecting Pedroia from getting tossed in the 2d inning when the ump was in fact giving Morton some calls and the Sox could not score with the bases loaded and no one out. On a 3-2 count he called strike 3 on JBJ when the ball was clearly outside the zone. Without that, the Sox score 1, and Morton gets seriously rattled.

He might get canned but it won't be because of today's game.

I'm no expert, of course, but I doubt it. The Astros had the better team or weren't you watching the first two games of the ALDS or the final four games of the regular season?

Yesterday's win was largely because Farrell convinced Price a month ago he could contribute a lot from the bullpen and Price delivered big time after Fister bombed.

Today, same deal, only this time it was Sale out of the bullpen, the same guy everyone said was toast after his last two starts, only Farrell didn't think so.

The problem today was our ace reliever Kimbrel couldn't get one guy out in the 8th (before giving up a WP, a walk and a single to score the tying run) and then struggled in the 9th. How you can blame that on Farrell is beyond me.

Dump the chump

As much as I don't think Farrell is the right manager for Boston, I don't see him being fired unless the FO wants to placate its fan base instead of making some significant and costly changes to its lineup. In an effort to get a big stick, I think there will be considerable pressure to move Bogaerts and Bradley at a minimum.

Well said. I have been saying in the game threads I though he really managed well through the playoffs. Just the season as a whole and winning one game in the playoffs in two seasons might not be enough to save him regardless who's fault it is. Time will tell

Where the sox are concerned, they absolutely would. They’re the kings of testing the waters and then poisoning the waters. Do you guys remember the PR disaster the Tito leaving press conference was?

There is something to be said for winning the division twice. There is another to be said for being the favorite and really getting beaten soundly by the Stros and the Guardians in the playoffs. One thing to remember is that Farrell isn't Dombrowski's guy. With the team now burning 2 seasons of high expectations with s*** showings in the ALDS, I anticipate Farrell's option doesn't get picked up

So if sloppy baseball can win the division why do fundamentals matter? Baseball must be a very random sport.

It is! It is!

The only time I saw Betts do it was when he had a big lead and the ball was hit very slowly to the SS.

Getting thrown out at 3B by 4 or more feet is bonehead, especially with 0 or 2 outs.

I agree that you typically don't try to advance to 3B when the ball is hit to shortstop. I just don't agree with your characterization that it's always a boneheaded play, so much so that even little leaguers know not to do it. It's a judgment call.

If bad baseball doesn't stop the team from winning it is not a concern.

Or it could be that those who claim they observed bad baseball did not see as much of it as they thought.

Or some combination of both.

I don't like to see bad fundamentals, even if the overall net is a positive. That said, I don't think it was as bad as some here think it was.

This team has to get over the hump. This division's tough. They really need a strong bat in the offseason. Watching the Yankees and they clearly have outplayed the Guardians in the series. They have a lineup that I would like.

Henry tends to panic about such things, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's canned. Not directly because of anything he did in this game, but because the team did not advance to the next round.

Last year maybe, but even then the Guardians had the better record and home field advantage. This year no way the Sox were favored over the Astros.

As for high expectations, look homeward, why doncha? In the John Henry era the Yankees have continued to outspend the Sox but have clearly fallen behind in postseason success.

Nice that you picked the Henry era, since we won 4 titles right before he arrived. LOL
