So, you WANT your color analyst to just throw roses at the team and not tell what actually happening?

E-rod's minor league start was lousy. I think "Yuck" conveys the truth of that quite nicely.

I don't think Price actually gives a rats ass about what Eckersley said, I think he saw a chance to bully someone and display his warped sense of leadership.

If it weren't Eck's comment about E-rod, it would've been something else.

The biggest shame in all this would be if Eckersley changes the way he announces, or decides the BS isn't worth it at all.

Price might very well see himself as a team leader here and if he actually is it is a sad sad story.

You trust the media entirely too much. They're laying the spin on about as thick as they can to protect their own. Don't fall for the smokescreen. Eckersley threw the first punch in that little spat. If price was on an island I'd feel differently, but a lot of players who should know better if the media reports were on the level were backing Price, I think that counts for something.

Nonsense.

While I don't care for a lot of the s*** the media spews the vast majority of it is factual and reported responsibly.

I was watching the game that night when Eck said "yuk" in response to OB stating ERod's line in Pawtucket. It was only one word out of a benign exchange concerning the progress the gimp had made and what the team was looking for.

Eck, in this instance at least, said NOTHING critical or offensive. I very much doubt that any of the individuals that confronted Eck or laughed even heard or saw a replay of what he had said.

And we can add in the ever so lovable Pedroia as a co-conspirator since he was one of the guys rooting on Price.

Great...

Fire Farrell.

I don't doubt this but how do you know? I have not seen any Sox reports today.

If this so I am not surprised.

TRADE PEDROIA!!!!!!

Not so fast - the first report said that he was much a part of it. The second said he was nowhere near and said nothing. I'll just say what I said earlier - were they all even on the right plane. Maybe even a Price look-a-like. Write a story - if it sells and somebody thinks that it is just filled with with good honest journalism, good for them.

Second report today, took it back. Pedroia evidently wasn't even close. A weird story getting weirder.

They could trade them all save Sale and Kimbrel and I'd be ok with it. It is a joke.

There seems to be some question as to whether Pedroia was one of the ones cheering on Price. I would expect better from Dustin ( That's not how we do things around here ) Pedroia. It would be interesting to know just which players were involved.

Yes, they were all on the plane. It was a chartered plane for the Sox and NESN.

Where's the second report? I don't see a retraction on CSNNE.

Is there a bigger bunch of snowflakes than Boston sportswriters?

Yup, the 25 man roster. Don't dare say "yuck" about a bad performance of theirs!

Haha, seems like a toxic combo.

Yup, which is why they need a stronger leader than Farrell.

I have no problem with players bitching at beat reporters as it's easy to just not read the paper. Taking on the broadcasters is a bit much for me.

The Pedroia issue is as follows:

WEEI is saying Pedroia isn't involved with sources from people at the altercation

The Sports Hub/CSNNE is saying Pedroia is involved with sources from people at the altercation

Maybe WEEI is trying to downplay the story as they don't want their Sox ratings to go down even further? Maybe CSNNE is just trying to push this story since they don't broadcast the Sox?

This story just kinda blows. If Price had just spoken to Eck like a professional, this all wouldn't have happened.

the second report can be read from the weei website.

More anonymous sources. Good stuff.

I really dig Farrell's quote: "At the time when we did meet, which was down in Texas, as I mentioned, and then again in the ballpark there,” Farrell said. “I’m aware that people reached out to him the morning after the incident when we were headed in to Toronto. So, knowing that that was in place, you know, I followed with my conversations with Eck as I’ve always done. They’ve been cordial, there’s been professional respect on both side and I think my relationship with him is positive in a professional way.”

Farrell is the worst. What a lump of nothing. So much word salad.

Sadly i guess he is becoming somewhat of a joke. Blah blah blah is all I hear from him. They need a leader and it should be the one in charge.

On the field, he is a great player, but he has revealed himself to be a douche over the years. I still don'y understand why Price was mad at Eck, but he has been bizarrely thin skinned. I am surprised that Pedroia would have joined in going after Eck because he has been in Boston for so long and seen much tougher critics than Eck.

Fake news in sports being exposed? Much like Ken Rosenthal's trade rumors.

A real leader could have squashed this nonsense the day it came out. All he had to do was pay lip service to the media and tell Price to write a statement on twitter about he spoke to Eck afterwards and everything is fine now.

It's not that hard.

Gosh. A professional athlete in the prime of life backed by 6 other professional athletes tries to intimidate a 65 year old dude in the aisle of a plane. What a freaking bad-ass! Why this bunch is a tough as, say, a group of middle-school internet posters.

Just out of curiosity, who those 6 other guys? You've got some info we would all love to have shared.

Price is a scowling prick and Farrell is spineless.

I know one of you posted about this before, I'm not sure who. And I did in the game thread. But when I really started to think something was wrong was when Mookie ran threw Butters sign at third to hold up at third. Mookie kept running and was out by a mile.

As a player, I'd never not do what the thirdbase coach was telling me. And in this case, we have an extended veteran coach getting shown up by a younger player.

And after the play they showed Mookie laughing it up in right. So he never got chewed out, or if he did, he didn't care.

Something about that whole situation struck me odd.
