It's subtle, but there IS a difference. Control is the ability to throw a pitch in the strike zone. Command is the ability to hit a certain spot in the strike zone. Maybe it is just great control, but they call it command. It's just a word. I don't see why anyone would actually get angry over it.

 

I would amend that to just the ability to throw a pitch to a certain spot (whether in or out of the strike zone). A fastball pitcher climbing the ladder on a hitter is an example of command. Moving the ball in out, up or down at will is command.

What's really important is that a pitcher has command in the clutch.
