Trading Marco would be a mistake. Holt is also a very good utility player but probably fits better elsewhere than with us. Marco is young and his abilities are still on the rise. He can fill the utility role in the infield and can play every day should someone get injured. I don't see Rutledge as significant trade bait.

That's pretty much how i see it. Hernandez and Rutledge would make a nice back-up IF duo. Losing Holt would hurt more in terms of extended OF depth and 1B depth, but with Shaw ML ready, I'm not afraid of a long term injury to Moreland. With Young as our 4th OF'er and Selsky looking pretty good, I think we'd be okay, if an OF'er went down for an extended period.

Nobody wants to see a major injury, but if there is, I don't see much (if any) of a downgrade at any of these positions:

1B: Holt to Travis (maybe Swihart or Pablo next year once Devers is ready or Marco wins the 3B job)

2B: Holt to Hernandez

SS: Holt to Hernandez

3B: Holt to Rutledge/Hernandez

OF: Holt to Young (Selsky or maybe eventually Swihart)

If we cannot get good value back for Holt, I'd be happy keeping him and having a deeper bench. Losing Young and Moreland next winter might free up some room for one of these guys (Marco and/or Shaw) to win a FT job.

Xander Bogaerts and Matt Barnes on the bereavement list. Noe Ramirez and Marco Hernandez recalled. Barnes returns Sunday, Bogaerts on Monday

Swihart will go to the minors? Never happen. He will eith be the 4th OF or traded. Which, I hope for his own good, will be the case. He's on somebody's s--- list. Probably JF's. He has a good number 2 hitter sitting around trying to be a catcher, and doesn't know what a good hitter he's throwing away.

I'm glad we stuck with Leon.

Hmmm.. I wonder who the SS is going to be today. I guess we'll know in a couple of hours. :-)

Nobody for the Sox.

You are talking about Sam Travis, not Travis Shaw?

Yes, I knew I was going to eventually mix up their names!

I do it all the time and I followed him when he was at IU with Schwarber.

Any other 'big' name starting pitchers out there? We might as go for broke!!! (just kidding)

Like trading Groome, Devers & Travis for Quintana?

Had we still had Espi, Margot, Guerra, Allen & Asuaje then maybe we could have come up with a package and still had some decent farm pieces leftover.

There seems to be an epidemic of that stuff going around. Tom Caron said today that it was going through the clubhouse during the last week of ST. I'm surprised to hear that Ross has been DL'd for it though. I got the impression from what TC was saying today that everyone else was being treated as day-to-day.

This is getting scary bad.

They should put our starters in quarantine to keep them away from the bug.

Looking to next year's 25 man roster, could we possibly not replace Young and Moreland from outside the system? (We might also replace Rutledge- perhaps with Hernandez.)

Two of these four players could fight for the 1B, 3B, DH and/or 4th OF'er slots:

1B Travis

3B Hernandez

1B/DH/3rd C/4th OF/3B???: Swihart

3B: Devers

(Pablo could move to 1B and/or DH with HanRam to take Moreland's slot, if Travis does not beat out Hernandez, Swihart, Devers for a spot on the 25, and someone else looks netter at 3B than he would be at 1B.)

14 players vying for 13 slots (assuming Rutledge is out):

Betts RF

JBJ CF

Beni LF

Bogey SS

Pedey 2B

Ramirez DH/1B

Pablo 1B/DH/3B

Leon C

Vaz C

Swihart C/LF/1B/DH/3B?

Hernandez 3B/SS/2B

Holt 2B/3B/OF/SS/1B

Travis 1B

Devers 3B

By position

C: Leon/Vaz (Swihart)

1B: Pablo/HanRam (Travis/Swihart)

2B: Pedey/Holt (Hernandez)

3B: Pablo/Hernandez/Devers (Holt/Swihart)

SS: Bogey/Hernandez

LF: Beni/Swihart

CF: JBJ (Holt)

RF: Betts (Holts)

DH: HanRam/Pablo (Platoon?)

Maybe Pablo plays 1B vs RHPs and sits vs lefties.

HanRam plays 1B vs LHPs and DHs vs RHPs.

(Perhaps Travis plays 1B vs LHPs and HanRam DHs FT. Maybe Swihart gets in the mix here to find him playing time.)

It's crazy how bad the clubhouse has been hit, on top of the 2 players who are on the bereavement list. They said something today about it being 3 different strains of the flu (or something flu like) running through the clubhouse.

JF did not want Kimbrel to go for four outs today. Maybe in the future, but not game #3.

What the f*** is wrong with our society. Do we have to baby a guy making $12.5M?

We had a chance to win today. Up 5-4. I'M JUST GOT TO SCREAM. WHY ARE WE SUCH WUSSIES ANYMORE?

You have F'n Chris Sale.....moon lol... Unless DD gets a superstar in a trade, I don't trust him dealing any of the good prospects which they have left. It also will be interesting without Sale in Chicago how will Q handle being the ace by himself... It's the bullpen. Show me a great pitching staff and pen, I'll show you a great manager.

The easy part is trading great prospects and getting established stars.

The easy part is throwing money at free agents and see if they take it.

The toughest part is building a bullpen on the cheap.

The toughest part drafting the right players when it's time for the pick.

For the record, I am not for trading any more top prospects at this time.

My scenario was a "what if" we'd tried one past trade instead of two others.
