And that is where we differ. I'm not cool at all. My daughter like to remind me of this...

Well, I hate to break it to you and the rest of the dads on this board, but dads are geeks. I think it's like a law of physics or something, that when you become a dad, you also become a geek.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Pffffft

I was a geek long before I was a dad. My degree is ion mechanical engineering. That’s like majoring in geek in college...

Does Joel Skinner get listed under the Body Parts List or the Old Time Occupations list?

Personally I think it would be much better on the Old Time Occupations list. Do we have one?

Brett Gardner

My mind is mush at the moment. Someone add to this please

It started on Page 4 of this thread. It's been a while...

Do we need a list of players who share names with athletes in other sports?

If that would be fun for you, of course you should.

Reggie Williams. What sport hasn’t had a Reggie Williams?

Wow, I just checked Wikipedia, and there have been two Reggie Williams in the NBA, NFL, and MLB, for a total of six Reggie Williams. Plus a Reggie Williams in the CFL, and a professional cricket player. All we need now is a Reggie Williams in the NHL and one on the PGA tour.

With some of the more obvious names, the list can get really long, for example Mike Smith gives you

6 Major League Baseball players

2 NFL players

2 NBA players (including one forgettable Celtics' first rounder)

1 NHL player

1 professional wrestler

2 cricket players

1 darts player

3 rugby players

1 decathlete

and a jockey.

But with a bland name like that, I would expect a lot of activity...

Twelve pages and no mention yet of Terrmel Sledge, Lastings Milledge and Boof "the Boofman" Bonser.

While Boof is his legal name, nicknames are ABSOLUTELY eligible for this thread. What the hell is baseball without nicknames?

Yeah, but when the names are real names, they're funnier. IMHO

Daniel Poncedeleon is working on a no-hitter for the Cards.

Apparently I'm the only one who thought this one was funny. Maybe it was because I was actually watching the game and I thought I was seeing things when I saw PONCE DE LEON on the back of his jersey.

It's a damn shame Al Kaline wasn't a catcher, we could have had jokes about him being part of the battery.

When I was a kid I noticed this and pointed out to my mom that was our batteries had a baseball player’s name on them. She thought I was referring to Ray-O-Vac.

Ray O’Vac? Never heard of him...

My daughter has a friend whose mom has the maiden name Ponce de Leon...

The only funny name I ever knew personally was a guy in high school named Justin Cais (pronounced, obviously, "Case"). I could never figure out why his parents would do that.

Or why former Giants/Expos shortstop Chris Speier also named his son and future major leaguer Justin, making him sound like a motivational speaker...

Children should be able to legally re-name themselves as early as possible, seriously. Pro golfer Jason Day and his wife just had their third child, a son, and named him Arrow.
