Here's A Mind Blower!! Why are there NO Yankee Players that have come over to the Sox

We all know about the famous judas's of Red Sox past, Boggs, Clemons, Damon, Ellsbury.....BUT name a (major player) Stankee that either signed with the Sox or that was traded?? You can't can you? So is there some mystical Steinbrener contract clause that forbids anyone whoever puts on pinstripes to ever go to the Sox? Or is there some Sox management/owner clause that would never allow or approve a Stankee to play for the Sox??

Hmmmm, it starts your mind a whirring doesn't it...........

(seriously, the biggest reason is that the Yankees are the team most likely to re-sign their stars until they're aged past usefulness)

I think Torrez is about the only example of a Yankee player being snatched by the Red Sox when he was a real hot commodity. He had just won 2 games for the Yanks in the 1977 Series, both complete games.

I don't see any great mystery here. It's because the players are mercenaries. And I don't say that like it's a bad thing - nearly all MLB players are mercenaries. The Yankees offered them more money than 1) the Sox could afford to pay or 2) the Sox thought the players were worth.

On the flip side of that coin, the Yankees have traditionally locked up their "stars" for contracts that took them through their prime years and to the point where the Sox didn't want them.

We almost had Bernie Williams. They Yankees did not want to pay him, but when Boss Steinbrenner found out that he would be signing with us, they paid him.

Honestly I can't remember a former a major former Yankee in recent memory that we really had a decent chance of acquiring. I mean Robinson Cano was a free agent a few years ago in his prime, which to this day I'm still surprised the Yankees didn't re-sign, but for that money did anyone really want him? Especially when we already had Pedroia?

In trades from the Yankees to the Red Sox in the past 50 years: Kelly Johnson (2014), Jim Mecir (1997), Tony Armas (1997), Don Baylor (1986), Mario Guerrero (1972), Danny Cater (1972) and Elston Howard (1967)

No, there's really no mystery. Times have recently changed a little, but the Yankees were willing to pay their free agents whatever it took. Bottom line.

The Sox also acquired Tony Armas Jr. from the Yankees for Mike Stanley in a deal thst turned out to be one of the most important trades in team history. ..
