Yes, I understand. I'm no spring chicken myself!

Then you know the way the game is played. What we don't have is a big library of cases on the way DD operates. It appears he looks at numerous alternatives and then goes in the direction of team improvement by getting equivalent value for any trades while he is open to spending a lot in the FA market. We will see if that trend holds. We all know the names involved but I would bet he has additional surprises out there. The first GM meeting concluded today with no announcements to date. The next is in early December in Maryland and at that time maybe some movement will occur.

I don't think I'd give JBJ, Moncada and Espi for Sale.

Giving up the store for one pitcher, who might prove fragile, is not such a good idea. Espi is young and improving. JBJ may well make a step with his hitting and Mncada has tools but is a bit of an unknown. I don't think the deal will go down for Sale, at least with the players mentioned.

I think they'd take JBJ, Moncada, Owens and Kopech for Sale.

Not saying I'm for this, but what about this possibility?

The Brewers would like to dump Garza's salary. We'd likely cut him day one, but taking on his salary might lessen the return for the next two guys:

Trade:

Drew Pomeranz- 2 arb years

Travis Shaw- 5 years of team control (3 are arbs)

Blake Swihart- 5 years of team control (4 arbs)

Henry Owens- 5 years of team control

Brian Johnson- 5 years of team control

For:

Matt Garza- $12.5M/1 (same on luxury tax)

Ryan Braun- $76M/4 or $87M/5 ($21M luxury tax hit)

Tyler Thornburg- 3 arb years remaining

We get our DH and solid set-up guy. Milwaukee saves millions and gets many years of young player control.

The whole point is not getting stuck with a 4/5 year contract, Ryan Braun. I much rather go the committee route than taking on salary and giving up 22 years of team control guys.

With what we currently have in starting pitching, there is no way as in 0 that I would give up Kopech at this time. When the talk trends toward a discussion of younger players, I get excited about the ones who are actually showing signs of living up to their potential as opposed to those that everybody (including the scouts) says somebody might be other worldly. Kopech is an example of the type of pitching that you just don't give up at this time.

I agree. I was making the point about what the CWS would take. I morphed the theoretical Espi into the real Kopech.

If they'd take JBJ, Swihart, Owens & Johnson, I'd do it.

I doubt I'd give JBJ, Moncada and Owens.

I wouldn't give JBJ, Moncada & Kopech, nor would I give JBJ, Devers & Kopech.

Why would you want to give up 5 young players, including 3 starting pitchers and a catcher, for a well-paid DH and a setup guy? I think I'd rather sign EE than do this.

So we now take on a known cheater and a guy with a huge character flaw?

Not on my team. I want all choir boys thank you.

4/87 is not chump change.

I'm with you. If you go big why stop short of the prize. Step up and pay EE.

Or just offer Beltran a decent short term deal for now.

This^^^

There are a handful of MLB players I don't want in the clubhouse and Ryan Braun is near the top of the list. Having choir boys may not be realistic but I have no interest in someone who throws other people under the bus rather than accept the blame for his own actions.

Read my first sentence.

Now, Owens and Johnson are not going to crack our rotation. I put the odds at more than 100:1.

I'm not high on Shaw like others here, and if I traded him, I might then go after Frazier or Turner (FA).

The only real significant players we're giving up are 2 years of Pom and 5 years of Swihart, which people are telling me is worth no more than Salty was when we traded for him.

I suspect the Brewers would say no.

Thornburg is not just a "set up guy". He's a top set-up guy.

Braun can play LF when we play in NL parks. EE can play 1B, but then HanRam is benched.

I'm not into listening to my team sing in a choir.

Just win, baby!

Yeah, but Braun really crossed the line. In sleazeball behavior he's maybe one notch below A-Rod, if that.

I don't get the point of throwing out trade proposals you don't like that much yourself.

kind of like it myself - creates some conversation

We may lose out on EE, Morales and Beltran.

We may have to go to plan x, y or z.

That's really what I'm trying to do, or they may be a similar salary dump like Garza that would allow us to get a choir boy instead of an evil dude.

Maybe someone could counter with another idea.

I'm trying to keep my mind off the next 4 years.

I was kidding about choir boys. But I do want good citizens on my team.

I don't care if they smoke weed or go out bar hopping. As long as it does not effect his play on the field or the team's success.

No Wife beaters and no known cheaters.

I understood it the way it was intended. I may be relatively new here but I'm catching on to how certain posters phrase things. :)

The Blue Jays have agreed to a multi-year contract with Cuban infield prospect Lourdes Gurriel Jr., reports MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez (via Twitter). Gurriel, the younger brother of Astros infielder Yulieski Gurriel, is considered one of the top available international prospects and will receive a seven-year, $22MM contract from the Jays, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post

Justin Verlander is apparently available at the right price.

He's owed a lot for a starter who turns 34 in February.

17:$28M, 18:$28M, 19:$28M, 20:$22M vesting option (2020 option guaranteed with top 5 finish in 2019 Cy Young vote)

They're also dangling Miggy who turns 34 in April and is owed this...

17:$28M annually, 18-21:$30M annually, 22-23:$32M annually, 24:$30M club option ($8M buyout), 25:$30M club option

Just one of these guys puts us near the projected new luxury tax limit. Maybe they'd take Pablo to offset some of the money, but then we'd just have to give more prospects or ML ready players.

Would this get us both?

Pablo, JBJ, Shaw, Pomeranz, Moncada, Swihart and Basabe

Would we want to go that large and long on two 34 year olds? Miggy's going to be like 143 his last year under contract!

Is that 7 years at 22 mil total? If so, that is so much more palatable than someone like Castillo.
